I'd happily opt out of father's day emails.
In fact, the list of email topics had happily opt out of is quite extraordinarily long.
I get $100 for Father's Day. No other celebration is necessary.

@Mark Call me cynical, but follow the money. This wasn't a messaging decision, but a financial one.
Americans spend $25B on Mother's Day, and about half that for Father's Day. That's all retailers, though; Etsy caters more toward women, making the numbers even more skewed.
Mother's Day is huge for Etsy. Father's Day, not at all so much. They let their sales numbers dictate their messaging, which is a surefire way to piss people off.
I sent them a shitty email as well, FWIW.

How does that email contribute to their bottom line? Does Etsy really drive people away with the fathers' day emails, or did they feel pressured to stop sending them because they received negative feedback from culture warriors virtuously supporting the fatherless?

Could very well be they hit the Mother's Day messaging too hard, had an uptick in opt-outs, and want to prevent that with the next spending holiday.
Obviously I don't know for sure but back in the long ago, other companies have done exactly that, and paid me to send that messaging out. So it or something like it are possibilities.

Guy, it's freaking spam. They're saying you can opt out!
Stop complaining!

I didn’t realize I needed a reminder to optionally opt out, LOL.

I'm always deeply suspicious of anything that says you can opt out, because by doing so you're confirming your existence to them.

I got the same weird vibe as Mark, for some reason.

Etsy sent me those emails for both Mother's Day and Father's Day. I opted out of both.
Some people don't want to get those emails, and I'm one of those people. I wish more retailers would offer the opt out feature. Etsy is trying to be nice, and I appreciate it.
