That’s not an entirely accurate portrayal of the plan.

That one tweet quoted by @Jolly with his thread title is a good example of what’s wrong with how some people approach news dissemination and news consumption on the Internet.
That one tweet is a particular view point plucked from a Fox News reporting that itself was prompted by one school board member’s Facebook post.
Look up that Fox News reporting and you can get to the much larger picture of what the Virginia Dept. of Education’s “VPMI” project to recalibrate the state’s math education framework to better prepare students for the world the are more likely to live and work in. Look up VPMI and you will see a lot of thought and research went into what the Virginian math educators are working on, e.g.:

First, I have quite a few friends here in Virginia who are really alarmed by the plan that essentially forces all grades to take the same math courses until 11th grade. In other words, the days of being able to take an algebra course a year or two early is over.
Second, I find this tweet to not reach the “Breaking911!” implied Twitter handle purpose.

I'm certainly not going to watch a one-hour presentation, Ax. Did you watch it first, or are you automatically in step?
I saw the same thing for 12 years.
How much is based upon justification of one's position and salary?
No no no. It will make things better, more equitable.
"Equitable like equality?"
No no no. You don't understand.
"Excuse me, point of order. . . "It's for the kids. Really. It will make things better.
Better. Always better.
And then the State lowers the bar because students are actually doing worse.Next round in about 3 years, to make things "better."

Oh I’d just reserve 911 calls for life and death emergencies.

I think the Twitter handle is like the old Drudge (does anybody go there anymore?) flashing light.
