The real crux of the matter with the JK Rowling issue is nerd culture. Trans people (and I find it funny that as soon as I typed tran, my phone immediately wanted to toss up the ⚧ emblem. I can see lots of funny autocorrect problems on car forums when talking about transmissions...) are overly represented in nerd and geek culture as the cosplay phenomenon appeals to the mindset of taking on different roles and living different lives. But that’s another discussion.
At any rate, due to that over representation, they feel particularly betrayed when a popular creator isn’t in lockstep...
