Glad it’s FEMA’s money and not ours!

      That’s nice of them.

            From the article:

The agency usually provides funding for funeral expenses related to natural disasters, but the more than 500,000 American lives lost to the pandemic greatly outnumbers the death toll in other disasters.

FEMA already "usually" provide funding for funeral expenses related to natural disasters, so the "Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021" extended that funding for funeral expenses attributable to COVID-19

Despite the title having the year "2021" in it, that Act was signed into law by Trump on 2020 December 27. If nothing else, call it a 'bi-partisan' policy with support from the Democratic-controlled House and the Republican-controlled Senate and White House.

If nothing else call it another gift of my money paid by the federal government.

If you want a funeral, save your money and buy one, same as anything else.

I dont agree that the government should be giving money for funerals.

On another note, I was hearing an article about how "human composting" funerals are becoming slightly more popular.

I am OK with government not paying for “funerals.”
But in cases where no living next-of-kin claims a dead body or where the next-of-kin cannot afford to dispose of the body, the government should at least dispose of that body as a matter of public health.
In the course of disposing such bodies, if the citizenry out of compassion or human decency think that there needs to be some ceremonial acts performed to honor the dead, the that just warps a “disposal” into a “funeral.” Drawing the line between “disposal” and “funeral” becomes more difficult then.
