Asian hate? Seriously?

I'll agree that has become the case lately, BUT go back 13-14 months and China Virus and Chinese Flu were in the general lexicon and even in the media to no small extent.
If winning points is important, and pointing out that the liberal media called it a flu allows someone to feel like they're on the right side of politics because liberals make more mistakes, I honestly do not give a shit. Absolutely, those people should make their tallies and feel happy about themselves.
If the liberal media called it a flu then I'm going to blame them for shitty reporting at best and at worst, contributing to the death count by failing to educate the public. I don't care about the points.
-
@Aqua-Letifer It’s not about points, liberal media, or calling it a flu. It is about recognizing that it was generally identified as such with no malice and the phrase was adopted widely. It wasn’t until later that people recognized there were political points to be won that it became an issue.

Okay, fine. But you can't play games like use it as a dig, and then hide behind the explanation you just gave to get away with it. That shit goes on, too.
Basically I will continue to reserve judgment on those who call it a "Chinese flu" and use my own personal discretion when deciding whether or not they're an asshole. More often than not, that's the conclusion I continue to draw. Not because #stopasianhate but because they're being an asshole.
-
I have no doubt that many are purposely trying to be assholes. I just think that a lot of those are not trying to be rude towards Asians, I think they are trying to tweak those that are annoyed by the phrase.

Just saw a post on NextDoor that there will be a "Stop Asian Hate" rally in my neighborhood on Thursday. Never a better excuse to have a party than a bunch of people being murdered. I didn't have the heart to post that the rally should probably be "Stop Massage Parlor Prostitution Hate".

Wow, Ax, project much?
He's not wrong. When I hear "Coronavirus," it's almost always coming from someone who is talking about, or wants to discuss, SARS-CoV-2. When I hear "Wuhan Flu," it's always and I literally mean always from an asshole who (1) blames China for the spread of a (2) trivial virus that no one should pay attention to because it's just like the flu and the lamestream media are blowing it out of proportion because they hate Donald Trump.
My own personal experience is admittedly a small sample size, but so far it's always been the case. I'll allow that there are almost certainly outliers.
Well, I usually call it the Chinese Virus, but since you prefer Wuhan...

See? Outlier. I know for a fact you don't think the virus is a conspiracy theory. I'm also pretty sure you decide to make a distinction between China the government and China the people who live there. So call it whatever, I don't get the impression you're trying to be an asshole about it.

It's not against Asians. It's against the CCP who did everything they could possibly do to assure this to be a global pandemic.
A. aegypti which causes Dengue fever, probably triggers Egyptians. Wonder whatother organisms or diseases need their names changed?

Oh,I think he’s trying to be a bit of an asshole with it, just not towards the good people of China. More likely his victims are WWW (Whiny, Whimpy, White).

Some troll posted on social media that in the Bay Area, kids are taking up a “slap an Asian” challenge, to stalk public transportation and slap an Asian you see. This social media trolling made its way to my wife and presumably many of her online acquaintances, all part of certain WeChat groups. They don’t generally have the requisite cynicism about the woke pop culture messaging, so take such rumors at face value. So now it’s my job to convince my wife that it is actually safe for her to leave the house. Thanks, the left! Bang up job with the messaging! Making the culture more stable and functional one irrationally paranoid minority at a time.
-
I can imagine the left embracing the “slap an Asian” challenge.
It is right on message.
I doubt there is much of a hate Asian movement in this country, but this could help to get that going.
And Asia covers a lot of ground. The term Asian as it appears to be used now just doesn't fit my idea of Asian. I think Bosphorus to Kamchatka.

As many of you know, I'm Chinese by marriage. As none of you know, I was pulled over two days ago, in Nevada, by a white male police officer. Because I'm Chinese.
I know that this forum is mostly populated by straight white males, so I'm not expecting most of you to be able to relate to my life experiences. But I do ask that you try to imagine what was going through my mind during this traffic stop. Not only am I Chinese, I also identify as bisexual. What are my chances of surviving this encounter with a white male police officer?
I now know what the young men who stormed the beach at Normandy felt. I now know what it was to hear the bullets fly by in the jungles of Viet Nam. I survived. Many of my spiritual predecessors did not.
You should have heard this cop. "I pulled you over for doing 91 in a 55 construction zone, but since the zone just started a bit back, I'll delete that from the ticket and give you this 10 mph over the limit violation, as if the limit were 80."
That's the face of hatred, folks. The banality of hatred. He dares threaten my life as a Chinese bisexual and then attempts to mitigate the aggression by "taking it easy on me" with the citation?
I survived. Not everybody does. And most of you will never, ever, understand.
My healing process has only just begun.
