is it any wonder poorer states have lower life expectancies?

not sure I saw the metrics. Did they base it on age at death? How does that account for all those people that lived 70 years in PA/OH/WV etc then moved to FL/AZ/CA/HI for their final decades?

Good question. High percentage of blacks in many of those states....

@jolly And states with high Latino and Asian populations do better.

2014 data:
Native Americans: 75.06 years
African Americans: 75.54 years
White Americans: 79.12 years
Hispanic Americans: 82.89 years
Asian Americans: 86.67 years -
What about Irish Americans?
In the 1840s: The peasants fleeing Ireland had a shorter life expectancy (19 years) than slaves in the U.S. (36 years).
Irish life expectancy is now 82.26.
