Life Expectancy, by State

is it any wonder poorer states have lower life expectancies?

not sure I saw the metrics. Did they base it on age at death? How does that account for all those people that lived 70 years in PA/OH/WV etc then moved to FL/AZ/CA/HI for their final decades?

I wonder how much of that is just composition effect of ethnic variation.
Good question. High percentage of blacks in many of those states....

What about Irish Americans?
In the 1840s: The peasants fleeing Ireland had a shorter life expectancy (19 years) than slaves in the U.S. (36 years).
Irish life expectancy is now 82.26.
