    https://www.businessinsider.com/stockton-basic-income-experiment-success-employment-wellbeing-2021-3

“In Stockton, California, 125 residents got $500 per month, no strings attached, for two years.

After one year, full-time employment had increased in the group, and depression and anxiety decreased.

      I’d want to know:

      1. were the success factors decided in advance of the experiment? Or were these just two metrics that had improved so they’re running with them?

      2. Was there a control group?

The article might call it a 'success,' but I would not reach for that label just yet.

UBI is still new that there is not much of a theoretical or modeling framework to go with it, not enough to definitively nail down criteria for success or failure yet.

At this point I'm OK with just observations -- which metrics improved for whom, which other metrics deteriorated for whom, etc.

One article on one experiment is not going to give a comprehensive picture, and it's given that each article will have its bias. My intention is to keep collecting more articles on more UBI experiments and see if some pattern emerge.

I wonder how weekly therapist visits would work or perhaps Prozac vs the weekly fancy meal.

          Maybe Prozac in the water.

Indeed. Without a control group, a test like that is meaningless.

The article does discuss the control group.

"Full-time employment among basic-income recipients rose to 40% from 28% during the program's first year. In the control group, full-time employment increased as well, though less dramatically: to 37% from 32%."
