Pets are amazing. It’s the best way (maybe only) to get unconditional love and they never withhold even in your worst moments.

The only downsides are when they die and what to do about vacations.

      And cat bites.

And (old) cat diarrhea - like this morning, all over the floor.

I'd never found an interesting dog/cat pair before. Seemed like a good idea to bring them both into the house at once. Both are about a year old.

We live by tons of lake or river walking trails, I love playing fetch and I will set up an agility course like I did for Mojo. We also buy smart toys where they have to solve a problem to get the treat.

@mik That’s right, you’ve had Shelties which are pretty similar in that regard...

Our dog is a border collie German Shepard cross. Good dog, smart, likes to please and responds well to commands. Not at all a wanderer, which great on off leash walks.
A bit of barker and can be very territorial with other dogs and strangers.

Absolutely hates anything with feathers and squirrels.

I have two, and currently I consider them mostly work. 200 pounds work. I can't easily board them because they are too strong. As a human, I'm big enough to control them. They don't trust most other people.

So you're, what, fostering them while y'all decide if the fit is right? Or is it a done-deal adoption?

Oh Mik, they are adorable! Having a pair helps ease the worry when you have to leave them for a while. I wish my dog had a companion (now that I can´t bring her in my classroom anymore), but she´s too set in her ways to want a companion. I bet the cat helps keep the dog in his place 🙂

No, I just inquired about them. We won't even be able to look at them for a couple weeks yet.

Mik, you will enjoy this all the more now that you're retired. My kiddo has a friend with two cats and a dog. The youngest cat adores the dog. The cat is growing up and getting quite big, but the dog is enormous. It's fun to see how they've become best buddies. You may see the same thing with these two.

D1 adopted a cat from a shelter. It was the most annoying, obnoxious, destructive thing. She took it back after a week with no issue. She did adopt another one at that time, and it's worked out great.

Mik, reeeaaally think twice about getting a longhair. They are beautiful to look at, but their hair gets into everything and I mean EVERYTHING. You will in short order forget what it had been like to not have their hair on every. Single. Surface.
