Likelihood of Covid death by age group

My two teenage children struggled, but neither lost a year of their lives, my son took a year out of college and worked, my daughter is in high school. The people who lost years of their lives are the ones who died.

If I were young I would have lots of questions around why I lost not only a year of my life but my job prospects too. Why didn’t the scientists and media truly focus on the most vulnerable?
Trump
He had to look bad, nothing else mattered
Really
Yeah, obviously that's why Europe went into lockdown. Donald Trump.

The question wasn't why lockdown.
It was about the focus.
In this country, and much of the world, the focus was Mr. Trump, all year long.
How many stories about the vulnerable were published last summer or fall? A few about the nursing homes in NY, but the focus of those was mostly the governor.

Not when it came to the pandemic. The only time my British friends mentioned Trump really was to comfort themselves with the thought that whilst Bo-Jo is a complete plonker, it could always be worse.

Same in the Far East. President Trump was obviously in the news, but not really about the pandemic.

Both my 80+ parents survived COVID without any real issue. Recovered in two weeks. With my dad on his death bed with cancer all across his body. It's a strange disease. There must be some genetic marker(s) that could tell us which among us are susceptible to bad cases.
Neandertal DNA
https://www.pnas.org/content/118/9/e2026309118
Significance
We show that a haplotype on chromosome 12, which is associated with a ∼22% reduction in relative risk of becoming severely ill with COVID-19 when infected by SARS-CoV-2, is inherited from Neandertals. This haplotype is present at substantial frequencies in all regions of the world outside Africa. The genomic region where this haplotype occurs encodes proteins that are important during infections with RNA viruses. -
