A representative should reflect the views and desires of his constituency. That's what they are elected to do.

The $1.9T economic stimulus bill enjoys support from 70% of Americans, yet every single Republican legislator voted against it.

What percentage of those who approve of the bill look at it as anything other than "free" money from their uncle in Washington? If they knew of the pork for federal workers, for example, do you think they would supportive? How about $80B for pension bailouts?

For that matter, do you support 20 weeks of paid leave for federal workers, but not private sector employees?

And completely ignoring everything else? Not a word on the fact that there is more money going to salvage pension funds than there is to vaccine production and distribution.. Or multiple states running a budget surplus getting tens of billions of dollars...

I've always secretly hoped that criminals talk like that, and use phrases such as 'caper' and 'you were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!' as part of their daily conversations, however I suspect there are a lot more f-words, and a lot less concern regarding grammatical nicety.

In the context of letting a worker care for himself or a dependent stricken by COVID-19, I support both. Happy to support bills that pass either or both. Just because a piece of legislation does not solve all the problem does not mean it is unworthy of support for solving half the problem.

I am ok with comparing two sets of workers to lift the benefits for the set with less benefits. I generally dislike pitting one set of middle/lower-class workers against another in an attempt to induce jealousy as a way to sabotage the benefits for the other set of workers. “Race to the top” is fine. “Race to the bottom” is not good for the society.

                        Doesn't fit the narrative.

There are still idiots who roam the earth, that refuse to acknowledge what American MSM has become, which is nothing more than a more subtle version of Pravda in its heyday.

The leadership and the on-air talent has become increasingly Leftist. And lazy. I don't think there is overt collusion in how they report the news, rather it is more like a large school of fish...No single leader, but all swimming in unison towards a single destination and when a few turn, they all turn.

A free press is essential to the function of the Republic, but that press must have a level of integrity and professionalism. Yellow journalism has always existed, but it was never as all-encompassing as it is today.

Those who cheered as J-6 American prisoners were locked in solitary for 18 months without trial, now suddenly fight tooth and nail for foreign terrorists’ "due process". — Buck Sexton

I just heard that farmers' will have loan forgiveness of up to 120% of the loan.

If they're of the correct heritage, of course.

                                White folks need not apply.

                                https://www.farmprogress.com/farm-policy/covid-relief-bill-includes-16b-farm-aid-payments

he loan forgiveness for Black farmers was debated intensively throughout the markup, with much of the discussion coming from Rep. Austin Scott, R-Ga., who says the funds would lead to reverse discrimination if USDA would forgive 120% of all outstanding USDA loans for farmers of color. “As this pushes forward, courts have ruled Congress cannot discriminate on race,” Austin Scott says, adding there are no distinction that farmers have to prove discrimination and payments would be based solely on a producers’ skin color.

Rep. Randy Feenstra, R-Iowa, filed an amendment to reduce the amount of debt forgiveness from 120% of debt which was included by Chairman Scott to account for the tax consequences of debt relief to 100%. Forgiveness of a debt can be a tax event for the farmers leaving them to bear the burden of the tax liability which is why Scott says the 120% is warranted.

Forgiving 120% of loans could also lead to a dangerous precedent, Austin Scott explains. USDA has already settled in the Pigford case which in 1997 and 2010 paid out over $2 billion in discriminatory claims to Black farmers.

                                Because reparations racism.

@george-k said in Trump Senate defense: the American people already rejected me:

                                  https://www.farmprogress.com/farm-policy/covid-relief-bill-includes-16b-farm-aid-payments

he loan forgiveness for Black farmers was debated intensively throughout the markup, with much of the discussion coming from Rep.

Also because of TDS. Scott and Feenstra are the sort who didn’t register any objection when Trump doled out more than $40B in farm subsidies to bail farmers out of the hole he dug by conducting his stupid “trade war” with China. Pandemic is a much more justifiable reason to dole out subsidies than self-inflicted trade war.
