Whither the GOP post Trump 2020 election loss

"Trump's call to suspend Constitution not a 2024 deal-breaker, House Republican says"
It seems some Republicans are still very timid about saying anything that may go against Trump, to the point where they would choose Trump over the Constitution if it comes down to Trump or the Constitution.

As would a few tens of millions of American āpatriotsā.
The difference may be that some of these "patriots" you refer to truly do not believe that what Trump does is unconstitutional and would defend Trump on that ground, while the Republican cited two posts above seems to realize that what Trump does is unconstitutional, would not defend Trump, but seeks to overlook the transgression entirely. In some sense, the former maybe truly ignorant, the later willfully feigns it.

Trump is having trouble consolidating support in South Carolina. GOP donors/activists there are split supporting Gov. Nikki Haley and Sen. Tim Scott.

The GOP Is Starting to Plot Against Donald Trump
Republican Party donors and leaders are talking about how best to stop Trump from running away with the nomination again in 2024. But they donāt have a clear plan to stop him.... Eric Levine, a top GOP fundraiser who has been calling on the party to move on from Trump since the 2020 election and the uprising at the Capitol. āHe is a metastasizing cancer who if he is not stopped is going to destroy the party. Donald Trump is a loser. He is the first president since Hoover to lose the House, the Senate and the presidency in a single term. ..."
āI donāt see a big bunch of donors coming behind Trump at this point,ā said Andy Sabin, a metal mogul who gave over $100,000 to Trump over the years and who opened his Hamptons estate for a Trump fundraiser in 2019. āI wouldnāt give Trump a fucking nickel, and that hasnāt changed. As we get closer Trump is going to see the handwriting on the wall. Now, he may not care if he fucks everybody up. Trump worries only about Trump, so he may not care if we lose as long as he has his day in the park, but I donāt know any donor that wants to give a red nickel to Trump.ā

He is (self) damaged goods. This doesn't surprise me at all.

The pill says DeSantis lead Trump, but Trump will win the nomination if there is just one additional candidate entering the field and splitting the vote.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/02/18/michigan-gop-chair-karamo-trump/
LANSING, Mich. ā Republicans here, reeling from a midterm election rout that many blamed on the influence of former president Donald Trump, responded Saturday by spurning the former presidentās choice for state party chair ā and choosing someone even more extreme.
Kristina Karamo, who refused to concede her 14-point loss for secretary of state in 2022, beat former attorney general candidate Matt DePerno, who had Trumpās endorsement, in three rounds of contentious voting. The chaotic 11-hour convention, featuring a rowdy standoff over voting procedures and 10 candidates who all ran under a pro-Trump banner, left no doubt that the bulk of the partyās activists in this key battleground state remain firmly committed to election denial and showed no interest in moderating their message to appeal to the political center.
āConceding to a fraudulent person is agreeing with the fraud, which I will not do,ā Karamo said to cheers in her campaign speech on Saturday.

@George-K Interesting article.
One of the things in the headline and I think that @jolly has brought up when talking about what is believed to be positives for Presdient Trump is the # of judges done by him.
It is interesting that President Biden has actually appointed MORE judges than President Trump at equal times of their president cycle
"President Joe Biden is outpacing his predecessor in the number of federal judge appointees installed during his tenure.
As of Sept. 20, Biden had notched 83 federal judges confirmed by the Senate. At this point in his presidency, Donald Trump had 69 appointees confirmed, according to NBC News. If continued at this pace, Biden is on track to beat Trump's historic number of appointees."
That could obvisouly slow down if the Republicans win the Senate.
There's a reason for that, but that's another thread.

The headline is:
Trump killed the āvalues voterā wing of the GOP. It isnāt coming back in 2024.
On the eve of a Christian cattle call in Iowa, the two 2024 contenders who talk the most about their faith arenāt gaining traction.Largely by the 'values voters' they are talking about the Evangelicals. The gist of it is that, since Trump came along, the Evangelicals care less about the candidate's faith and more about the candidate fighting their cultural wars.

Former Attorney General Barr
https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/3990804-barr-trump-will-deliver-chaos-and-horror-show/
āIf you believe in his policies, what heās advertising as his policies, heās the last person who could actually execute them and achieve them,ā Barr said of Trump at an event in Cleveland. āHe does not have the discipline.ā
When pressed further, Barr claimed his former boss doesnāt have āthe ability for strategic thinkingā or āsetting priorities.ā
āIt is a horror show when heās left to his own devices,ā Barr said. āAnd so, you may want his policies, but Trump will not deliver Trump policies.ā
āHe will deliver chaos and, if anything, lead to a backlash that will set his policies much further back than they otherwise would be,ā he added.

Also Barr:
āWho did I want determining the direction of the Supreme Court for years to come: Trump or Hillary Clinton? The question was not close. On this basis alone, I would crawl over broken glass to the polls to vote for Trump.
Once Trump won the nomination, the media, after fawning over him during the primaries, suddenly discovered his character flaws, which they now suggested made him unfit for office. I did not know enough about him to make firm judgments about all aspects of his character, but I did not see anything at the time I felt disqualifying. The country should aspire to elect leaders of high moral character, to be sure. But the significance of a candidateās moral strengths and weaknesses has to be judged in relation to all the other attributes that person would bring to the office in the context of the time in which heās runningātogether with his policy views and leadership skills. In our age, the electorate seems to put less stock in character, as I learned sadly when it replaced George H. W. Bush with Bill Clinton. Many of our past leaders, including some idolized by the Left even today, are known to have had deep moral failings. Trump certainly had his share of them.
One important point, though, was that those failings were not as hidden as they usually are in political leaders. In Trumpās case, the failings were close to the surfaceāmostly on full display. Trump was not as much two-faced as full-on frontal: what you saw is pretty much what you got. Many people have attributed his flaws to a deep narcissism. This would not surprise meāit is a common malady in our age, especially among celebrities, political and otherwise.ā
