You're welcome. That will $10. Would you prefer to pay by Venmo, Apple Pay, or PayPal?

          Congratulations

My daughter went to CNU, that began the chain of events that has me living in Smithfield

CNU is a good place, it is still a fairly new, safe campus.

It is expensive, but is a good deal compared to similar schools around the country. It is about the same cost as Tech. If we ever get past the covid, the Ferguson Center will reopen, that is a good place.

            Awesome, LD.

            Fingers crossed for Tech too...

My son's first year of college didn't go too well - his grades were fine, but he absolutely hated the experience, so he's working for a year to pay it off, and trying to figure out what's more appealing than mechanical engineering. Pan handling is one option, I guess.

He getting any ideas? I really shouldn't have gotten the degree that ai did. Had I done what you're son is doing, I would have saved a ton of time.

He's pretty clueless. His best subject at HS was probably history, but he knows that would be a complete waste of money, and he has no interest in teaching. He really needs something moderately technical, but without too much math. We shall see.

The one good thing about Covid is that it was a perfect excuse for him to take a year or two out, and discover what working in retail is like, which might provide some motivation to get back on the engineering bus (at least that was our plan).

If he doesn't mind working with people, consider nursing. Lots of job opportunities, not overly technical, you can advance to a nurse practitioner (if you wish) and the administrative jobs sport a disproportionate number of men. Plus, you're a guy surrounded by a ton a gals your age...All you have to do is pick the height, the weight and the size.

He's great with people (although he doesn't know it) - not so good with blood and gore.

                                  I was only joking

He could study psychology and go into marketing. Or anything actually.

Maybe some sort of “information technology” degree? Good luck!

Excellent news, LFD! Congrats to Luke. I bet he gets an acceptance letter to his first choice, too. Acceptance letters take longer to get than the other kind.

Phibes, your kiddo is going to be more sure of himself and ready to dig in for his next academic adventure. When I was teaching, older students were an absolute joy in class. I loved their focus and good attitude. Please keep us posted. I'm rooting for him. 🙂

Just heard back from his school of choice, Virginia Tech. Waitlisted... They’ve had 45,000 applications and it’s clogging their system.

The problem seems to be twofold. Waiving the SAT has caused a huge influx of new applications.

Second, since they are removing the SAT for consideration this year, they are just balancing academic scores with a socio-economic weighting system for the district. A 4.0 in Fairfax and Loudoun is worth a 3.0 from less prosperous communities.

Kind of makes me happy that he was waitlisted and we can focus in on CNU. Everything I am reading tells me Virginia Tech and other mega-schools are going to be a clusterfvck this year.
