    Whatever happened to "Unite us?"

    https://www.cnbc.com/2021/01/08/biden-invites-pence-to-inauguration-says-its-good-trump-will-skip.html

President-elect Joe Biden said Friday that it’s good President Donald Trump will skip the inauguration ceremony later this month after one of the most chaotic weeks in modern American politics.

Trump, who helped stoke Wednesday’s violent riot on Capitol Hill, said on Twitter earlier Friday that he would not attend the event on Jan. 20.

“I was told on the way over here that he indicated he wasn’t going to show up at the inauguration: One of the few things he and I have ever agreed on,” Biden said of Trump. “It’s a good thing, him not showing up.”

“He’s exceeded even my worst notions about him,” the president-elect said. “He is one of the most incompetent presidents in the history of the United States of America.”

Biden, who spoke from Wilmington, Delaware, added that he would welcome Vice President Mike Pence at the inauguration.

“I think it’s important that as much as we can stick to what have been the historic precedents and circumstances of how an administration changes should be maintained” Biden said. “So if Mike—the vice president is welcome to come. I’d be honored to have him there and to move forward in the transition.”

There are things you think, and there are things, as President, you don't say.

You're just as classless as the man you accused of being a "clown," the one whom you told, during a debate to "shut-up."

This, coming from a man who spent 47 years in politics, ran for president 3 times, and accomplished...what?

"Now look here, you Baltic gas passer... " - Mik, 6/14/08

Maybe some Conservatives like it when a President actually says out loud what he thinks, they just haven’t got around to applaud Biden for this yet.

You've not heard me defend President Trump's language or behavior. I've been not a critical as some, but there are others who are better at criticizing him for saying things that are out of line.

My point is that the man who calls for "unity" is hurling insults at a sitting president is beneath him. Like I said, he's the man who told the President to shut up and called him a clown. You're supposed to be better.

          You're not.

It seems there is plenty of acrimony to go around.

Still, who would want the current pouty face at what is normally a solemn occasion?

People have been complaining for years now that the sitting president has eroded the level of political discourse in America. And it wasn't just deaf ears. His vitriol is precisely what got him elected. Many people on this very board cheered this shit on or went oddly silent. Four years of that.

It should come as absolutely no surprise when the next guy follows suit. Against someone who encouraged a crowd to goddamn invade the Capitol building.

              Please love yourself.

I don't think his "vitriol" appealed. His willingness to take a stand against the leftist tide of cultural ideas definitely appealed to me, but no vitriol was ever necessary for that. He's a sore loser and now some fringe Trump supporters did a terrible mob riot that turned violent, at the capitol. It doesn't invalidate everything about his presidency.

I think trying to stop the steal electoral process is a slightly bigger deal than Joe Biden calling Trump out for being the shitbag he so obviously is.

I'll start paying attention when one side actually tries to shift the narrative to what their own shortcomings are. Until then I don't much care who they think is more or less virtuous, it's nonsense.

No, it doesn't. By some standards, it would be considered successful, as @Mik has pointed out. The man's a boor, a horrible, horrible person. Yet, no one can look past that. As Reagan said, "Are you better off than you were four years ago?" Many polls have said the answer is "yes."

This event is an indelible stain that will haunt his legacy for a long long time. It also gives ammunition to the people who can't stand him, just on the basis of his неккультурный personality (which is yuge).

Biden hasn't been anywhere near as crass as Trump, at least from what I've seen.

Regarding this week, as far as I'm concerned it confirms what I've said about him all along.

Yeah, yeah, I know, TDS. The problem is all with me. I can't see his positive side because I'm so deranged by the fact that he's such a twat.

Yep. And I still think Biden's policies will be much worse for the country than Trump's.

                                      So we're arguing about price?

"Anywhere near as crass" is still crass.

It's a poor justification for his statements. And today, as I said in another thread, he went full Godwin.

I've always said that Biden was a poor choice for President.

Complaining about his lack of class and grace after 4 years of what we've just had is a joke.

I'm much more concerned about his inability to stand up to the left of the party and have the mental acuity to make difficult decisions.

However, Biden would never have been President if the GOP had run a decent candidate, just as Trump would never have made if the Dems had found somebody better than Hillary.

                                          I was only joking
