Lab Leak?
-
The Chinese knew - in November 2019.
Three researchers from China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology became sick enough in November 2019 that they sought hospital care, according to a previously undisclosed U.S. intelligence report that could add weight to growing calls for a fuller probe of whether the Covid-19 virus may have escaped from the laboratory.
The details of the reporting go beyond a State Department fact sheet, issued during the final days of the Trump administration, which said that several researchers at the lab, a center for the study of coronaviruses and other pathogens, became sick in autumn 2019 “with symptoms consistent with both Covid-19 and common seasonal illness.”

Biden shuts down investigation by State Department:
President Joe Biden's team shut down a closely-held State Department effort launched late in the Trump administration to prove the coronavirus originated in a Chinese lab over concerns about the quality of its work, according to three sources familiar with the decision.
The existence of the State Department inquiry and its termination this spring by the Biden administration -- neither of which has been previously reported -- comes to light amid renewed interest in whether the virus could have leaked out of a Wuhan lab with links to the Chinese military. The Biden administration is also facing scrutiny of its own efforts to determine if the Chinese government was responsible for the virus.
Those involved in the previously undisclosed inquiry, which was launched last fall by allies of then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, say it was an honest effort to probe what many initially dismissed: that China's biological weapons program could have had a greater role in the pandemic's origin in Wuhan, according to two additional sources.
But the inquiry quickly became mired in internal discord amid concerns that it was part of a broader politicized effort by the Trump administration to blame China and cherry-pick facts to prove a theory.
I'm sure that "The Big Guy's" administration won't cherry pick facts to disprove the theory, amirite?

I'll read Loki's link in a moment.
The quote is from the CNN article. CNN?? What has happened to them over there?
OK. "allies of..." makes it more like CNN.
Why has this taken so long, and how long will it take "allies of..." the Biden admin to dismiss and bury the whole concept of the CCP doing something that would require some sort of action?
-
From Loki's link to the WSJ:
"Mr. Biden, who wants a report within 90 days, said that U.S. intelligence has focused on two scenarios—whether the coronavirus came from human contact with an infected animal or from a laboratory accident."That's all? There could, or shall not be, any other possibilities to focus upon? Wonder what that third possibility might be? I'm sure asking a lot of sarcastic questions this morning.
Easier than thinking. -

It’s incredibly valuable to Biden in any negotiations with China. Why would he have a fake process only to squander leverage?
Also now that Trump lost the election we can be more honest.

There's a chance that Trump created it by being an orange douche bag. I know what you're thinking: "But Trump is an idiotic orange douche bag, he wouldn't have the technical know-how to create a pandemic!". But in fact, the process is well understood in nearly its entirety:
- Be an orange douche bag
- ???
- Unleash pandemic on the world
That's one single step away from being fully understood. So don't tell me that Trump "definitely" didn't create the virus - there is a strong possibility he did.

They knew. They always fucking knew.

The wife of a Wuhan lab researcher working on coronaviruses died of what appeared to be COVID-19 in December 2019, the leader of a State Department investigation under the Trump administration told the Daily Caller News Foundation.
It would have been an early clue that the virus could be transmitted among humans, yet Chinese authorities said that the virus was not transmissible for at least a month after they knew it was, allowing it to spread, according to David Asher, who led an investigation on COVID-19’s origins and served in the State Department under Democrat and Republican presidents.
China reported in mid-January that the virus was transmissible among humans. An individual who worked at the Wuhan Institute of Virology at the time provided the information on the lab researcher’s wife dying, according to Asher.
A Wall Street Journal story on Sunday reported that three Wuhan lab workers were hospitalized with COVID-like symptoms in November 2019, before the first confirmed case of COVID-19 on Dec. 8. The story’s main findings, that WIV workers had possible COVID-19 symptoms in fall 2019, before the first confirmed case, were already in a State Department statement on COVID-19’s origins released in the last days of the Trump administration.
The lab workers appear to have been more likely to have had COVID-19 than the flu, Asher said.
“How many normal people in their 30s-40s get so sick from influenza that they have to be hospitalized? Lab workers, I am told, are almost certainly getting flu shots.
“Moreover, what are the odds that several workers — who happen to be the researchers on enhancing the pathogenicity of COV RaTG13 and associated COVS all fall very sick together?” Asher noted, referring to coronaviruses.
China has blocked interviewing the previously ill researchers at the WIV, the January State Department statement said.

But, in the big picture, the research in gain of function was totes worth it, even if it might cause a pandemic, said Fauci:
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
According to The Weekend Australian, Fauci wrote in 2012 that continuing dangerous gain-of-function research was worth the risk of a pandemic.
In previously unreported remarks, Dr Fauci supported the contentious gain-of-function experiments that some now fear might have led to an escape from a Wuhan laboratory causing the Covid-19 pandemic, calling them “important work”.
An investigation by The Weekend Australian has also confirmed Dr Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, did not alert senior White House officials before lifting the ban on gain-of-function research in 2017.
Writing in the American Society for Microbiology in October 2012, Dr Fauci acknowledged the controversial scientific research could spark a pandemic.
“In an unlikely but conceivable turn of events, what if that scientist becomes infected with the virus, which leads to an outbreak and ultimately triggers a pandemic?” he wrote. “Many ask reasonable questions: given the possibility of such a scenario – however remote – should the initial experiments have been performed and/or published in the first place, and what were the processes involved in this decision?
“Scientists working in this field might say – as indeed I have said – that the benefits of such experiments and the resulting knowledge outweigh the risks.
After telling Republican Senator Rand Paul two weeks ago that he "never" approved grant funding through the NIH for gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, Fauci changed his tune this week and said he simply told Chinese Communist Party controlled scientists not to conduct the research.
From Fauci's exchange with Republican Senator John Kennedy:
Kennedy: “Here’s where I’m getting at: You gave them money, and you said, ‘Don’t do gain-of-function research.’”
Fauci: “Correct.”
Kennedy: “And they said, ‘We won’t.’”
Fauci: “Correct.”
Kennedy: “And you have no way of knowing whether they did or not, except you trust them. Is that right?”
Fauci: “Well, we generally always trust the grantee to do what they say, and you look at the results—”
Kennedy: “Have you ever had a grantee lie to you?”
Fauci: “I cannot guarantee that a grantee has not lied to us because you never know.” -
It’s too bad there is such a bulls eye on Fauci. To lay this at his feet is such motivated rhetoric at this point in my opinion as I’ve seen him as a right wing target.
He certainly did not invent “gain of function” and if you really cared there is an incredible amount of info on that topic. I’ve been down that rabbit hole.
Here’s a primer on the topic. You won’t even find Fauci’s name listed.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gain_of_function_research
The real prize is if China accidentally let it leak and has covered it up. I wish people would stay focused..

That's not my point. The point is that he said the risks of going through a pandemic would be worth it to gain the knowledge.

Got it.. so probably half the scientists looking at gain of function support it using Fauci’s reasoning and half don’t.
And now suddenly this is a “bombshell”. I feel like people assume readers are idiots, and they are probably more right than wrong.
