Glad they did this study. I'll be curious to see whether Weinstein accepts it. No comment on Twitter at the time of this writing.

Here's why I hate the media.

Personally, I have no opinion on the effectiveness of ivermectin. This is NOT an endorsement of the drug.

CNN's Headline: Health officials warn people not to take a drug meant for livestock to ward off or treat Covid-19

Mississippi health officials are warning residents not to take an anti-parasitic drug -- in most cases, a formulation purchased at livestock supply centers -- to treat or prevent Covid-19.

The Mississippi State Department of Health issued an alert on Friday that the Mississippi Poison Control Center has received an increasing number of calls from people who have taken the drug known as ivermectin -- and that at least 70% of such calls related to "ingestion of livestock or animal formulations of ivermectin purchased at livestock supply centers."

While there are human uses for the drug, the US Food and Drug Administration has not approved ivermectin to treat or prevent Covid-19 in humans and the drug is not an anti-viral medication.

Ah, "while there are human uses...."

So, IOW, it's not just a livestock drug as the headline screams.

      Ivermectin

Ivermectin, sold under the brand name Stromectol among others, is a medication that is used to treat parasite infestations. In humans, this includes head lice, scabies, river blindness (onchocerciasis), strongyloidiasis, trichuriasis, ascariasis, and lymphatic filariasis.

      Assholes.

        Indeed.

Saw NBC news this morning. They described Biden as ‘steadfast’ on his strategy in Afghanistan. I cannot help but wonder what their word choices would have been if t were Trump.

Apparently, Ivermectin didn't work as well as planned.

                Reuters
An anti-vaxx police officer has died in Georgia after a short battle with COVID-19.

Captain Joe Manning posted anti-vaxx messages on Facebook and took the drug ivermectin.

A Georgia police officer who frequently posted anti-vaxx messages on Facebook and took an anti-parasitic drug instead of a vaccine has died of COVID-19.

Captain Joe Manning, 57, of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office died on Wednesday after a short battle with the virus, according to local news station WSAV.

Just listened to Bret Weinstein's podcast again yesterday. A mea culpa was presented about some pro-Ivermectin study that now seems likely to be fraudulent. But no update to his belief in the value of Ivermectin.

I think you're referring to the Egyptian study. I may have linked to it.

A couple of people found that that study was rife with statistical errors, made-up data, and plagiarism.

Sadly no, I'm not referring to that study. This was another one, I think out of Argentina, which focused on the prophylactic effects of the drug, rather than curative effects. When Bret discussed the Egypt study a couple weeks ago, he shrugged it off, and reminded everybody that he's most excited about the prophylactic value of Ivermectin. Now when discussing this Argentina study, he mentioned that it didn't say anything about the curative properties. Sigh.

                            And this is CNN.

It's a great hard news story, but they spent more time researching clips of commentators on FOX than they did on actually reporting the news about the drug.

BTW, did y'all know that CNN has two FTE's tasked to monitoring FOX News programming?

The issue is it is almost impossible to get the human form of ivermectin so all the anti vaxxers are sharing tips and tricks to get it in animal form. I saw a FB site (reading it was ghoulish) dedicated to such and some podcasts. It’s still a thing even as a few major anti vax ivermectin taking and pumping leaders in Texas and Florida died of Covid this past week.

So I think the emphasis on animal form has some merit in this context.

The amount of dosage is all over the internet. The problem is that people do not follow it or that they're totally unfamiliar with how to deliver a paste dose from a syringe.

Ivermectin may not help them, but a normal dose has a very low probability of hurting them.

@loki I’ve got about human’s dose worth* leftover from Ruler’s last deworming. Bonus with this one is you can get rid of your tapeworms too.

*actually don’t know anything about human dosage/ route of administration for ivermectin, for horses it’s oral, at 91 mcg/lb, and I’ve got 150lbs-worth leftover. It’s a lovely orange color and I have no idea what flavor it is. alt text

This seems rather unusual. A court of law forces a hospital to administer a drug described, off label, by an outside doctor.

The American Medical Association (AMA), American Pharmacists Association (APhA), and American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) strongly oppose the ordering, prescribing, or dispensing of ivermectin to prevent or treat COVID-19 outside of a clinical trial.

Ivermectin is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for human use to treat infections caused by internal and external parasites. It is not approved to prevent or treat COVID-19. Ivermectin is also available to treat certain veterinary conditions; medications formulated or intended for use in animals should not be used by humans. We are alarmed by reports that outpatient prescribing for and dispensing of ivermectin have increased 24-fold since before the pandemic and increased exponentially over the past few months. As such, we are calling for an immediate end to the prescribing, dispensing, and use of ivermectin for the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 outside of a clinical trial. In addition, we are urging physicians, pharmacists, and other prescribers—trusted health care professionals in their communities—to warn patients against the use of ivermectin outside of FDA-approved indications and guidance, whether intended for use in humans or animals, as well as purchasing ivermectin from online stores. Veterinary forms of this medication are highly concentrated for large animals and pose a significant toxicity risk for humans.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.
