If you go to Montana what is difference between a 40 and 70 hour week? Like what are you going to do with your free time? I would work longer for more money.

The difference, among other things, is how much of that time you are available on a moment's notice. If you're sitting on your ass for 30 out of those 70 hours, it might sound nice, because you're not "working" for 30 of those hours. But, when the pager goes off, you drop everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, and get to work.

It's a mindset that few people understand.

I can’t sit on my ass. It’s a real problem. I would pay big bucks to the person who could teach me. I mean more than jolly could make in a season in Montana.

            Hire me.

              I've retired. Twice.

I don't do enough now (4-7 twelves/month) to be worth my salt. But, it still has its moments.

Case-in-point...ED doc came flying in the lab to get me Sunday morning a week ago. When a doc is
running, you know the manure has hit the oscillator. Rural hospital, very few guys working that morning...And a 300 pound plus lady face plants in ER Room 4.

We've got to get her back on the gurney. Me, the male doc and three female ED nurses. Of course, as these things go, the patient decides to go from syncope to not breathing. So lads, the doc and I grab a sheet, roll her over on it, then up we go with the nurses taking care of the legs. Lift and then twist to get this whale on the gurney...Which is why I walked funny for three days.

Off to the Trauma Room for a Silent Code. Yee-haw! Ambu bagging, chest compressions. Found out real quick I can't do compressions nowadays without hurting. Three pops of epi and back she comes. Nurse hands me the tubes for the STAT labs. I'm getting the last of them done, about the time the chopper hits the pad.

Beats the shit out of watching CBS Sunday Morning.

You have a point. I wasn't interested enough to ask if it was OT after 40. Doubt it. Probably the same hourly rate.

In my younger days, I've rolled 100 hour weeks. For years, I'd work a 40 at my regular job and then roll a 60 hour weekend (Friday 1700 - Monday 0500), twice a month. To be fair, during the 60, I'd sleep in the hospital, so I was getting paid, sleeping or awake. You know you've done that crap too long, when the phone goes off and you're not awake until you're ten steps down the hallway tying your shoes and fumbling for the lab key.

Those days are GWTW. Old dogs stay on the porch...

Haven’t carried a pager for maybe twenty years. there is newer technology available. Called a cellphone. You should check it out
