Since I have an Apple TV+ (part of a package) and it's only an hour, so I don't feel too guilty continuing watching it.
So, with only a few episodes left for this season, I have this to say.
What. A. Mess.
"Hey let's take the idea of someone who can 'predict' (but not really predict) the future and make a space show with TONS of cool CGI! And while we're at it, let's totally change characters' genders, introduce new characters not in the books too! And, as long as we're at it, let's introduce storylines that are totally not in the books. because fanbois will watch it whatever crap we throw at them! But the settings, special effects and costumes are way cool!
"Oh, and remember when Hair died in the early episodes? Yeah, that didn't happen because Jared Harris is so FUCKING cool, we had to resurrect him in the second half of the season."
The Expanse's final season starts in about a month...

Finally, an episode that is not a mess.
In its penultimate episode, "Foundation" seems to bring together a bunch of storylines into a coherent tale. Actually not a bad episode, other than the hackneyed acting by some, cliches, and deus-ex-machina surprises.
Oh, and technobabble; can't forget technobabble.
It would have been a better series if they had not raised the expectations so FREAKING high because, well, "Foundation."
Hey, I'm retired, and it's not a bad way to spend an hour watching this on my computer while reading the news, etc.
Which raises an interesting point. If you can "watch" a TV show, or movie, while doing something else, how good/compelling is it, after all?

It's really sad.
If I hadn't read most of Asimov's Foundation books, I would find this pretty engaging.
Good premise, engaging (mostly) characters, and great production values.
But...
Amazon's Jack Ryan is not Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan Maybe some day they'll make a movie of Joseph Heller's 'Catch-22'.Take it for what it is, with no expectations.

Can't do that. I fully believe that it's ridiculous to judge a TV show based on a movie, but I can't help it.

Season 2 is coming "soon."
One of the most anticipated Apple Originals, Foundation, is set for a comeback soon – Apple shared its new cast and first look at this spatial saga based on Isaac Asimov’s books.
Apple TV+ Foundation is an epic saga from storyteller David S. Goyer and produced for Apple by Skydance Television. In the first image shared of the second season, you can see Demerzel, Harry Seldon, and the emperor together. As of now, it’s unclear whether this is a flashback or if the producers of the show are planning for an even more different path from the books.
Foundation chronicles the stories of four crucial individuals transcending space and time as they overcome deadly crises, shifting loyalties and complicated relationships that will ultimately determine the fate of humanity.
Apple also shared new stars joining the cast of Foundation for season two:
Isabella Laughland as Brother Constant, a cheerfully confident claric whose job is to evangelize the Church of the Galactic Spirit across the Outer Reach. Constant is a true believer, whose courage and passion make her hard not to love.
Kulvinder Ghir as Poly Verisof, High Claric of the Church of the Galactic Spirit. Whip-smart and sardonic, he’s also a terrible drunk — intelligent enough to see the path he’s on, but too cynical to change.
Sandra Yi Sencindiver as Enjoiner Rue, the beautiful, politically savvy consigliere to Queen Sareth. A former courtesan to Cleon the 16th, Rue parlayed her status to become a royal counsellor.
Ella-Rae Smith as Queen Sareth of Cloud Dominion. Used to being underestimated, Sareth employs it to her advantage, charming her way into the Imperial Palace with biting wit, all while on a secret quest for revenge.

I haven't even watched any of S1 yet. It's weird because I had always hoped they would put it onscreen. The reviews I've read have all been bad.

Well, yes and no.
If you put aside any expectation of "Foundation" having anything to do with Asimov's story, it's really not too bad. Great production values. Interesting plot lines and good acting. As I plowed through the first season, I was able to put my expectations away. Same people as in the books (mostly), same overall arc ("psychoshistory'), but that's where it ends.
I'll dive into season 2 with my expectations of faithfulness to Asimov's books in my back pocket.
It's, as I said, "not too bad" Sci-Fi. But...you gotta realign your hopes of what it should be.
There's been a lot of criticism of Asimov's books being "too talk-ey, too male, and not having enough action." Okay and fair enough. That doesn't make the story any less interesting and compelling. But you gotta promote what'll sell.
