    If they had tazers, that's about the only alternative to shooting him. And as you said, tazing might not work.

      Tasers are "close-in" weapons. Sometimes effective, sometimes not. If someone's wearing layers of clothes, they're marginally effective.

      So a guy rushes you with a knife and you hope that your Taser will stop him.

      I watched a guy get tazed by 3 different cops and keep on coming. The first one had no effect so another officer tazed him, he didn't miss a step so a third officer tazed him. It had absolutely no effect. It took a police dog to bring him down.

        The main problem with a taser is that you use it just like your pistol. It is hard to have a pistol in one hand and a taser in the other. When a guy is closing in on you and your taser you are probably wishing you had your gun instead.
