People are actually defending David Icke, who was recently pulled off Facebook, after he claimed the 5G network was at fault.

This is the same guy that claimed he was 'The Son of the Godhead', and that the Queen of England was an extra-terrestial reptilian.

OK, I suppose that last bit might be true.

    I was only joking

It’s why I don’t FB nor Twitter. We know the percent of the population that has always been nuts but giving them a voice is why it seems worse. They have more time at the home “command center” to launch. Normal people just don’t engage on these platforms.(as much)

@Loki There's a much wider swatch of conspiracy adjacent folks though - who wouldn't sit there and think of crap like this, but if someone told them a narrative might be inclined to think "hey that sounds right."

These aren't dumb people - just people who aren't normally engaged with or that interested in news / politics / etc.

Then you get crap like this circulating pretty broadly and regular people see it, and after seeing it a few times may think "hey, is there something to this?"

Social media is insidious. I think it's also a big reason why regular news is getting worse.

People respond to narratives on a much more instinctual level than facts. News has to compete with narratives that selectively join together a few facts (fake social media news)

Yeah, the downsides of social media sucking us into believing nonsense are clear.

On the other hand, without it I reckon I would have gone completely nuts over the last month.

We are here for you. A veritable cornucopia of sizzling intellects, constantly going nova on groupthink and the ubiquitous societal moron. A beacon of dazzling light in an ocean of terrified darkness.

Well, except for Aqua, of course.

That's a nutter friend from FB.

Here's an actual doctor from California who thinks virus don't cause disease (they're a waste product) - and 5G is the cause of coronavirus. Spanish Flu was caused by electrification .

            Doctor.

The woman I saw on FB was an anti-vaxer, too. She reckoned that Bill Gates was going to "find" a vaccine for Covid and then we'd all be given something containing a controlling nano-chip which would enable Microsoft to control us.

She's broadcast this hour long thing from her kitchen, which was well tedious and seemed to mostly center around the fact that everybody with an education was an idiot. I'm guessing she didn't have much of an education.

Apart from anything else how out of touch do you have to be to think Bill Gates still runs Microsoft, and that their software is anywhere near reliable enough to control anything?

Donald Trump was also a registered Democrat.
Before the Internet, there was (and still is) talk radio.
