Can things be haunted?

I don't think your toaster could rise up and strangle you, no, but the possessions of the beloved dead in your life can evoke intense feelings of sorrow or nostalgia or even joy in memories of shared happy times. Even humor.
Those aren't hauntings exactly, but they can be extraordinarily powerful.

Define "haunted".
However you'd like.
I'd like to define "haunted" as meaning "made of chocolate".
The answer to your question is yes, but not for long around me.

It doesn't have any hands, so strangling is out of the question. If a toaster were to turn nasty it would probably burn you to death, or possibly create an enormously strong electro-magnetic field that would pull you towards it and push your spoon into its electrickery. It could conceivably jump into the bath with you unexpectedly, which also wouldn't end well.

No hands, but how about it could whip its cord around your neck, Mr. Smart Guy Engineer?
Your other suggestions are pretty good though -- especially the thing with the spoon.

‘Strangled with a toaster cord’
A police clerk, found dead in her house is believed to have been stabbed and strangled to death with an electrical cord of a toaster.
Cops appear to be no closer to solving the mystery surrounding the murder of data typist Nosisa Sonjani, 47, whose decomposing body was found in her home at the SAPS Faure base in Kleinvlei on Friday.
Police have not revealed how Nosisa was killed, or if any suspects have been identified.
However, her ex-husband, Colonel Sandile Sonjani, who is the Station Commander at Philippi-East Police Station, revealed to the Daily Voice that she was stabbed and strangled.
Nosisa and Colonel Sonjani have been divorced since 2007 and have four children together.
She had been in a two-year relationship with a coloured woman from Macassar, who had apparently been living with her on the base, according to her relatives.
Colonel Sonjani says that as per Nosisa's a post-mortem, "she was strangled and she was stabbed, and there was a stab wound in her right breast".
“We visited the morgue and the information of her post-mortem was handed over to the investigating officer,” he added.
Nosisa had been stationed at Khayelitsha Police Station and failed to report for duty last week Monday.
By Friday, her worried colleagues became suspicious and went to her house, where they found her lying on her stomach in her bedroom.
Nosisa’s lover was at the murder scene on Friday.
Sources said there was no forced entry into the house, and nothing appeared to be stolen.

Ok, I’ll bite. Why do you ask?
Eh, Jolly mentioned it in another thread, and it seems to be one of those things where opinions don't track along political, regional, or educational lines, so I figured I'd ask. I always like hearing from folks who are adamant that it's a Thing.
Also, it has absolutely nothing to do with the fucking news cycle.

I dont know if things can be "haunted" but I do believe in spirits and people who can feel them.
-
Of course things can’t be haunted. The gremlins would chase the ghosts off.

I think Aqua might be haunted.
What if I don't believe in it, though? Does that work?

By his sister, no doubt. I would be.
Don’t we have enough Discharge and STD Transmission threads going?

My ex-wife had a car that would try and kill us. The wipers would go out during a blinding storm at night. The lights would go out on a dark hilly road with no guard rails. Finally, we decided to get rid of the car. We were to drop it off at my parents who were goingt to sell it for us.
Each day I'd tell my then spouse, only "x more days" to try and kill us. And sure enough each day the car would do something to try and kill us - like stall as we made a left turn in front of oncoming traffic.
Finally, it was down to the last drive. We were driving from downtown Chicago to a western suburb. I joked, well this is its last chance... Going west from Chicago, one drives under the Post Office Building and for a while there are no exits. That's where the car made its move. It started jerking and twisting. It was dangerous as traffic around us is going 60+. There was no where to exit for a while as the car jerked about. I have to admit I was pretty energized by the car's efforts. I managed to pull the car to an exit and pulled up in front of Malcolm X College.
I walked to a pay phone and called my parents who came to rescue us. We emptied the car and took off the license as we weren't sure what our next steps would be. I went to open the trunk - but the latch wouldn't open. Still a littled energized, I asked everyone to stand back as with my bare hands, I pried that trunk open. I knew it would either open or I'd pick that f'ing car off the ground.
Sold the car for $25. I felt badly that I didn't get a chance to spray the car with holy water. I was convinced it would burst into flame.

She's certainly been mysteriously entered whilst being possessed by spirits.
