Ilhan Omar refused service because she's a Muslim

@andrea-b what’s your position on letting private businesses decide who they want to do business with (e.g., whether a wedding cake maker should have the right to refuse service to gay couple ordering a wedding cake for their same-sex wedding)?

When Muslim bakeries start making gay wedding cakes we can have that discussion.
However, in Goldman's case, this is not a religious issue, it's a political one.
Do you support restaurants who refused service to Trump administration officials?

As Muslims traditionally has no concept of “wedding cake,” “Muslim bakeries” do not make “wedding cake” for anyone, gay or straight; it would be an equal opportunity non-discriminatory denial of “wedding cake” service to everyone.
Still, the gay wedding cake example notwithstanding, the question is “what’s your position on letting private businesses decide who they want to do business with?” Would you like to address that?

Glad you recognize that distinction. Legally speaking, religion is a protected class but political affiliation isn’t.
Would you have a problem with private businesses refusing service to supporters of, say, the Russian/Putin government?

No problem dining in restaurants that refused service to Trump, Biden, Obama, Bush, Clinton, Reagan, Carter administration. It’s just not something I consider when deciding which restaurants to dine in.

Nice try. There are at least a couple of videos of a customer going to a Muslim bakery and asking for a cake celebrating the marriage of two men. They were declined.

I had heard about the Goldman incident but I have to say the only people who would call Dan Sachs Goldman (ya rly) a ‘far left Democrat’ would probably consider any and all democrats to be ‘far left democrats’.
I don’t know the origin of his name. AFAIK, he has no relation to the original Goldman-Sachs family. In fact he’s a descendent of the Levi Strauss family and that’s the source of his fortune.
Much of the race with Lander - himself a Jew who left the DSA due to its reaction to 10/7 - was centered around Goldman’s ties to AIPAC.

Interestingly they did actually serve him as they didn’t recognize who it was until after the fact. They issued a unilateral refund and then posted on their since-deleted instagram account that he’s not welcome.
I wonder if that little detail that they did in fact serve him will be the technicality that saves them or will publicly saying he’s not welcome be enough to get them in trouble with the Feds?
