I mean this with all due respect, but man if I lived in Italy I would not care about American politics.

I live in Minnesota and I barely care. So much of the news and drama has no impact on my life, in the sense if I didn't turn on the TV or internet, my daily life and things I do with my family would remain unchanged.

@89th Ironically this reminds me of a song by Randy Newman"
"...We're rednecks, we're rednecks; we don't know our ass from a hole in the ground..."

But then again, who am I ?

C'mon, lighten up a bit. Telling you we're jealous of you is a compliment! I'd love to be able to retire to Italy, and honestly wish you only the best.

I don't have to agree with you. I don't agree with almost everybody on this forum about a ton of stuff.

Any American with a government pension, regardless of how stupid they'd been with their money throughout their past, can retire somewhere else. It's actually the path of less economic resistance. It establishes nothing about a person.

As far as retiring to a foreign country goes, the idea that it's a paradisical existence leans into the (always idiotic) idea that travel is amazing. Which in turn leans into the (established idiotic) idea that the grass is always greener.

And yet, some places have been scientifically proven to be better than other places. So why not just gravitate to the better places?

Anybody who plays the "scientifically proven" card to resolve a question that is not susceptible to scientific inquiry, is immediately suspect. Just FYI.

One can ask people about their self-reported happiness, I suppose. I bet Mr NS here would self-report a spike after leaving America. I would be wary of wanting to be in those particular psychological shoes.

I like a certain amount of travel, but my goal has been to build a life I don't need a vacation from.

                Tough crowd.

Saying 'Anybody can go live in a different country' rather ignores the very real challenges involved and the risks associated with taking a big step into the unknown.

At least half the people I know never left the state they grew up in.

I don’t wish to sound a little bit rude here, but it seems like you’re trying to tell me how to think and act based on how you think and act correct me if I’m wrong though 89th I really want to hear what’s going on in your head and also curious why you nor anybody else wishes to debate the actual message I posted I thought it was sensible and made a great compromise for both sides. Or you can really tell me the truth and just say I don’t belong in your clique. You sit here and put up with horace’s horse shit every day and I make a single post of thoughtfulness and you question why I care about my own fucking country? This is a clique through and through. And I’ve been here since 2005 when you were still sucking Republican milk tits.

I haven't read the rest of the thread yet but just ask yourself, does your posting about this online change anything? Does worrying about it do anything other than negatively impact your life?

Do what you want to do, but it reminds me (true story) of a friend who visited a few months ago who one morning was reading the news on her phone and was like "can you believe the shooting at a school in the Philippines? how awful, that is really hard to read" so I was thinking... WTF (w = why) are you consuming worldwide negative news? I literally has zero effect on your life.

And envy is beneath all of you I’m sorry that my life is going so fucking great and I like to share it with you. But your discourse on this forum is not how normal people talk to each other. This is where the dishonesty lies. And God forbid I bring up a topic about what started this form, pianos. All I receive is ridicule from fellow piano players even. And so when I post political things to try to fit in, I just get double ridicule. A guy can’t win here and you wonder why I fucking takeoff. so go ahead. Let it all out. Show your envy be proud of it because you wish you were fucking me right now not in a literal sense but you wish because you’re tied down with a wife in a traditional I can’t go anywhere life and I’m free and you wish you were me and it tears you up inside cause you ain’t and I’m not speaking to one person here I’m speaking as a whole because it reeks. But then there’s a guy like Mik, he doesn’t live with the envy at all, and even though we don’t agree politically, I can see he takes delight in seeing how my life progresses, and if there was one man on this form, I would love to meet in person it’s him there’s an honesty about him that he doesn’t have to hide here and I respect that.

Can't speak for others but my wife hates (not really) this about me. I talk the same way to my friends, family, grandparents, or even the dominos delivery dude....same here. Very authentic.

You’re not the first to suggest I let go of the struggle that afflicts Americans today.

Of course I barely read anything you post, but you are emotionally connected to American politics, and it's not because you feel a sense of fealty to the country of your birth. America presently is just a target for you to dump your hatred onto, in your dotage, and it will remain in those crosshairs indefinitely.

And you will never, ever convince me that you weren't a simple bald face liar when you claimed that your IRS colleagues were almost entirely hard core MAGA. You have a lot of explaining to do. Ask @89th whether that's remotely plausible. He's got lots and lots of fed worker contacts, and something tells me that his attitude towards MAGA hasn't evolved as a contrarian perspective within his personal social and economic network.

I'm not smart enough to know what you're asking but I can tell you all of my conservative friends who work(ed) for the government, at the pengaton, FBI, justice dept, white house, congressional staffer, volunteer for McCain presidential campaigns, on and on and on.... all really cannot wait for MAGA to be over, and most did not vote for Trump after 2016 if they voted for him at all.
