This should provide endless fun over the next couple of years.

He’s already spending 30MM on his first store in the Bronx. (After originally saying all 5 would be 75MM). Private grocers are saying that they could build three high end stores in Manhattan for 30MM.

How could this go wrong? Forcing a store to charge less (revenue) for bread and eggs while forcing them to pay the workers (expenses) more? Has anyone ever done the math about what happens when expenses are higher than revenue? It's TDR but I think Trump has really good experience on that "chapter" 😉 of the book.

I wonder what the "core set of staples" will include? Potatoes or pringles?

Will Tucker Carlson shop there? Maybe not if they don't have those revolutionary coin-operated shopping carts.

I suppose he has to try to deliver SOMETHING he promised.

A grand experiment? There’s nothing experimental about this.

Maybe he means that none of the other government run grocery stores have been halal.

I think he's using the word experiment as a future excuse of why it didn't work but wants credit for trying. Because... 3rd grade.

That rings true. It wasn't sold as an "experiment" on the campaign trail.

These far left folks never change. They're driven by the conviction that government can do things better despite so much overwhelming evidence to the contrary, however well-meaning the intention.

If I'm honest, I probably felt that way when I was 17 years old, but my excuse is I was 17 years old.

I think that is very true. Where it sadly seems to fail is it seems to be predicated on the assumption that if we are nice to everyone, they will be nice to us.

Not that different from hotel occupancy and rental car taxes. Tax the visitors to pay for services for the locals.
