And for what it’s worth, that is not a right leaning Reddit forum.

No doubt they clipped the misquote from right wing accounts somewhere.

But these sorts of slips are predictable once you understand that the modal progressive has a more racist perspective than the modal conservative. Expressed differently. Through magnanimity towards their inferiors.

That may be true for stereotypical modal types and select tribes and clans. However it is highly doubtful that it applies to the common buck toothed or red neck MAGAt who can hardly count themselves as being even remotely conservative let alone a progressive modal conservative.

Tribal drift is beside the point. It's enough that people understand the tribes I'm referring to.

It's only a misquote if you torture your framing. And that tortured framing is brought to you by your own tribal sources.

If you frame the word ‘quote’ to mean ‘repeat what he actually said’ then it’s a misquote.

They chose to elide the sentence before the SAT score. They chose to omit the paragraph before and misquote his sentence about reading speeches. It’s not hard to determine why.

The whole reason we call them illegal aliens is because they’re subject to our laws.

@jon-nyc "I'm a dumb person just like you" is an accurate paraphrase of what he said. None of your context changes that. It is interesting how desperate your tribe is to excuse this, though. It won't work.

The thing with Trump though is you don’t have to be disingenuous and fabricate bad quotes.

Plus, he lies pretty egregiously about his academic record, so it's hard to know quite how dumb he is.

You know the professors used to ask him to solve their problems?

All of right wing media is posting it with the middle sentence taken out (note the …). Also there’s an entire paragraph before the comment about how he can’t read a speech (NOT ‘I can’t read’). Also overselling the extent to which it’s a ‘black audience’. If you listen to the tape it doesn’t sound as bad as they make it out to be

Tribal drift? You mean like the Bedouin? They’re known drifters and not only clannish but very tribal as well. Not beside the point at all.

Plains Indians were like that as well.

If you're honest, you'll also admit that he wouldn't have given that answer to a room of college graduates, or white collar professionals.

If you find the full video he was talking about growing up with dyslexia, responding to a question by the interviewer.

If you listen to the whole interview he explains the various ways in which is mind doesn't work well, which makes him "just like you", directed to the room.

If you're honest, you'll also admit that he wouldn't have given that answer to a room of college graduates, or white collar professionals.

If you're honest, you'll admit that his perceptions of the audience informed his responses.

But I won't hold my breath for an honest engagement here.

Says the guy who posts a misquote, has it pointed out to him, and still won’t acknowledge it.

The whole reason we call them illegal aliens is because they’re subject to our laws.
