“You people” on steroids

All of right wing media is posting it with the middle sentence taken out (note the …). Also there’s an entire paragraph before the comment about how he can’t read a speech (NOT ‘I can’t read’). Also overselling the extent to which it’s a ‘black audience’. If you listen to the tape it doesn’t sound as bad as they make it out to be
-
If you don’t think the audience and his perception of them played a part in what he said - and he did say he was just like them because he is dumb - then you’re trying pretty hard to avoid the obvious.
I guess it’s possible he was talking to a bunch of Trump supporters, about whom he has similar preconceptions, but I don’t think that was the audience.

But these sorts of slips are predictable once you understand that the modal progressive has a more racist perspective than the modal conservative. Expressed differently. Through magnanimity towards their inferiors.
But these sorts of slips are predictable once you understand that the modal progressive has a more racist perspective than the modal conservative..
That may be true for stereotypical modal types and select tribes and clans. However it is highly doubtful that it applies to the common buck toothed or red neck MAGAt who can hardly count themselves as being even remotely conservative let alone a progressive modal conservative.

...and just like that, right-wingers worried about their leaders saying stupid shit again.

If you frame the word ‘quote’ to mean ‘repeat what he actually said’ then it’s a misquote.
They chose to elide the sentence before the SAT score. They chose to omit the paragraph before and misquote his sentence about reading speeches. It’s not hard to determine why.

It's just locker room talk.
He was only joking.
It's fake news.
It's good that he speaks his mind.
Don't worry what politicians say, it's what they do that's important. -
The thing with Trump though is you don’t have to be disingenuous and fabricate bad quotes.

Plus, he lies pretty egregiously about his academic record, so it's hard to know quite how dumb he is.
You know the professors used to ask him to solve their problems?

That is true, and much too commonly found in political anklebiting. But he's still a pretty clumsy panderer.

Tribal drift is beside the point. It's enough that people understand the tribes I'm referring to.

Tribal drift? You mean like the Bedouin? They’re known drifters and not only clannish but very tribal as well. Not beside the point at all.
Plains Indians were like that as well.

You still haven’t listened to the full quote I see.
“I’m no better than you. I’m a 960 SAT guy.”

I don't suppose there's any chance you could explain why you think that means "I'm dumb just like you" isn't an accurate paraphrase.
