Have heard trees - especially elms - make isolated loud popping or cracking sounds, but only when the temperature approaches - 35 C or colder. Have never heard of or have seen a tree explode from the cold.
Have never seen this or heard it. On the other hand, hearing contracting metal at night when it’s super cold is down right haunting.
