Is TNCR dying?
-
I miss everyone who doesn’t post. I wish George and Jolly would just pop in to say hi. I can’t comment on subjects I know little about, but I do read most of what people write and link to, and this often sends me googling to learn more. I’m pretty thankful for TNCR. It’s way more interesting than my quilting forums.

Yeah it's quite a unique gem. Couldn't imagine the internet without it, for me, at least. I get most of my news from here, have learned a ridiculous amount, both academically, practically, and emotionally from those
olderwiser than me. There is a solid list, but there are folks like @mik who's advice with (whatever... life, fixing things) I have rarely seen to be incorrect. Really cool. It's also a mind trip to think of the life events we've seen or discussed.... the marriages, the kids (some now adults), the divorces, the tragedies (e.g., Peggy's daughter in law), the sockpuppets, the TNCR running jokes...

I can run your life SO much better than my own.

I check in every day. But often don’t have the energy to post. Especially about local current events because that would mean just having to spell out in very long posts complex issues and that’s never very easy and also time consuming. But I do read almost every thread.
What else….i don’t know. I just find this place very educational. I learn a lot here even if I don’t chip in so much. -
The rest of the world has always had a keen interest in American politics, so the rest of the world knows how divided we are, and the rest of the world gives little particular weight to the individual opinions of Americans they may happen to know. Contrast that with countries given very little attention, and anybody they happen to know from that country, becomes in their eyes an immediately unquestionable expert on the politics and culture of that country. I think Israel is shifting towards the same fate as America, in that individual Israelis people happen to know, are not given, as a rule, unquestioned deference when it comes to the cultural and political issues of their country.

Or in one rather memorable case, an American told me what it was really like living in the country I grew up in.
Well, it was memorable for me, at least.

Well I am an unquestioned expert. But that doesn’t mean I need to share my expertise.

Beside no one gives Israel any attention. We r the forgotten country. Like somaliland which we just recognized.

Btw why isn’t TG around? I always like hearing her and she is an expert on all things Asian.
