Not really breaking, but we've spent precious few pixels on this. Comfortably in excess of a billion dollars stolen by Somali Muslim immigrants who explicitly considered America to be a land of chumps. Facilitated by Ilhan Omar, within the state run by the guy who wanted to be vice president.

Is there anything new here? I skimmed the video. Yes we know they committed fraud, yes they got caught, yes they (like 70+ people) are going to jail.

I cannot know what is or is not new to anybody. Personally, I hadn't been following the story much, and most of it was interesting to me.

But this creator has made videos on the story in the past, and felt there was enough new to him to make a new video today. But of course it's his job to make daily content. The fact that Omar inserted wording in the legislation to prevent pricing guardrails, which contributed to the ease of the fraud, might be new to most.

I saw him say that but didn’t understand how the safeguards were removed. He showed this press release excerpt multiple times, but aside from the typo of waves vs waives, not sure what he’s talking about that led to the fraud. I’m no fan of Omar but this is sloppy content churning reporting by the social media skeleton dude!

Gotta give Trump credit for one thing at least. Somalia is indeed a shithole country.
Approximately 39–41% of Somali households have access to basic or improved toilets (sanitation facilities), according to recent data.
• The Somali Health and Demographic Survey (SHDS) 2020 — the most comprehensive national household survey — indicates that about 41% of households have improved latrines/toilets (e.g., pit latrines with slabs or better, not shared in a way that disqualifies them as basic). This leaves a significant portion relying on unimproved facilities or open defecation.
• A 2024 UNICEF report states that only 39% of the population has access to basic sanitation facilities, noting a slight decline in recent years and highlighting rural areas and displaced communities as particularly underserved.
• Open defecation remains common, practiced by around 34–37% of the population (per 2024 humanitarian updates and earlier assessments), underscoring low overall toilet coverage.
Access varies widely: higher in urban areas, much lower in rural and nomadic communities. Ongoing conflict, drought, and displacement continue to hinder improvements. For the latest official global estimates, refer to the WHO/UNICEF Joint Monitoring Programme (JMP), though national surveys like SHDS provide the most detailed household-level insights for Somalia.
