Electric Piano Question
-
Hi everyone, I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Anyway, I go over to my daughters in NYC for Thanksgiving and she had 18 people over in her apartment and we concocted a table, moved furniture and moved her Yamaha P 90. The next day we tore it all down and I put the piano back where it belonged and instead of plugging in the piano power plug--I plugged in the charger to the battery powered vacuum. Stooopid.
I fried the piano. The light went on and then died and it really doesn't matter what happened, it's fried.
So, she almost never uses the piano, but sometimes she figures out chords and arpeggios. She won't practice on it She's not a fan of digitals and doesn't care what I get. (She has a Steinway B in her office and she likes that.) I was thinking of a Roland FP-30x. I want to spend $500-$600. In that range.
That sound OK? Thank you in advance.
BYW, we saw Jean-Yves Thibaudet (who my daughter once turned pages for in a performance at Tanglewood) play Khachaturian's Concerto in D-flat major at Lincoln Center. Pretty brilliant. He also did some Villa-Lobos.
I also got my pic taken with a Rockette--but that's another story.

That sounds fine for just doing some light fingering and chords.

Don’t throw out the Yamaha yet! Now it automatically can play John Cage!
Earlier this year, I was between that Roland FP-30x, and the Kawai ES120. I went with the Kawai if I recall because some reviews said the Roland action was heavier, you can YouTube comparisons and make your own judgment… I almost went with the Roland though. That’s all I did, watched YouTube comparisons, I never actually played anything in person before buying it because this is mainly for my daughter who is learning piano, although I am enjoying playing it too. Sorry if this is a ramble, im voice dictating.
I think the Kawai is a few hundred dollars more, maybe 900? I’d say go Roland and spend any saved bucks on a quality stand that doesn’t rock. You are paying to get good action on a digital piano at that price range, why let the piano rock back-and-forth as well!
