Those who the law protects but doesn’t necessarily bind, and those who the law binds but doesn’t necessarily protect.

These are two consecutive headlines in WaPo today.

      The rhetorical cases:

      1. Homan accepted an unlawful bribe
      2. Trump demanded prosecution of all his enemies regardless of whether they've committed a crime.

      The actual cases:

      1. There's a leak of a Biden-era investigation (from the same DOJ that is leak-proof regarding all the damaging information in the Epstein files) into Homan, where he allegedly accepted cash payment for a service his above-board business provides. It is entirely unclear whether he broke any laws in doing so, and the Biden administration sat on whatever evidence they had for four months.
      2. Trump wrote a social media post pushing Bondi to get on with the prosecutions of his enemies, and later clarified that if there was no criminal behavior, then so be it.

      Education is extremely important.

@Horace said in In authoritarian systems there are two kinds of people:

        The rhetorical cases:

        1. Homan accepted an unlawful bribe
        2. Trump demanded prosecution of all his enemies regardless of whether they've committed a crime.

        The actual cases:

        1. There's a leak from the Trump DoJ of a Biden-era investigation (from the same DOJ that is leak-proof regarding all the damaging information in the Epstein files) into Obama appointee Homan, where he allegedly was captured on video accepted cash payment from an under cover FBI agent for a service his above-board business provides. It is entirely unclear whether he broke any laws in doing so. but its almost inconceivable that he declared it on his taxes and if his name were Lisa Cook we would know that for sure, and the Biden administration sat on whatever evidence they had for four months didn't immediately tweet about it like Patel would have.
        1. Trump wrote a social media post pushing Bondi to get on with the prosecutions of his enemies, and later clarified that if there was no criminal behavior, then so be it, but just last week fired the last prosecutor that told him that.

If someone would like another example, the following people seem to have declared two or three different homes as their primary residence when applying for a mortgage:

          1. Greg Abbot
          2. Scott Bessent
          3. Lisa Cook

Notice any differential legal treatment among the three cases?

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
