    Camping mats and the ground were a lot softer 15 years ago… Did something happen to the physics of the earth that I missed over the last 15 years?

      The force of gravity has been steadily increasing. It also presents with unexpected joint pain.

      Geoengineers are looking into it. Might have something to do with the earth’s rotation.

      If you don't take it, it can only good happen.

        The earth was indeed softer when Obama was president.

        Might have something to do with the earth’s rotation.

        Yeah, climate change affects that.

          It is spinning faster…

            The earth spinning faster will make you weigh less and exert less pressure on your joints due to centripetal force.

              Right, but with the obesity epidemic, there is now more mass on the earth, which more than counteracts that.
              (leave the science to the professionals, Axe)

              Another thing I've noticed, is that I must be doing my runs in the same direction as this faster-spinning...causing the paces on my runs to appear slower...even though that's obviously impossible, since I'm trying harder.

                I’ll also note that the faster rotation is increasing the Coriolis effect, resulting in localized higher air pressure effects…

                  We tent camp all the time. Sometimes on the ground, sometimes on a folding camp cot from Cabelas. No problem.

                    I think the problem was more about not doing it for quite a while. I think I likely would have been fine if it was a 2nd or 3rd night…

                      @LuFins-Dad

                      I get what you are saying. We went back to tenting about ten years ago after almost twenty years of a truck camper. There was an adjustment involved that took a week or so.

                      Still, I am content with tenting and the additional effort it takes to make a proper weather ready camp. I was lucky, I learned those skills as a kid from my father.
