If it means I don’t have to watch a guy cop a squat on U Street anymore, I am all for it…

When was the last time you saw a guy cop a squat on U Street?
I haven't seen a guy (or any person) cop a squat ever on any American street, though based on smell alone I suspect some one has indeed done so in a subway station that I have visited.

Ax, how do you feel about needles, cooking bottle caps, sprayed blood and nodding junkies? Just come to Indianapolis right outside the courthouse. It’s a disgrace.

Will let you know how I feel about those when I see them.

In your opinion is what you have seen disgraceful enough to make you want the federal government to take over?

Seems like a well designed diversion to get the base on to something besides the Epstein files. Democrats rather predictably took the bait. Good job politically, Team Trump.
As for the substance I think one can think crime is a problem in DC and doubt that Trump’s approach will fix much. I’ve heard his peeps are heavily patrolling highly visible areas not particularly known for out-of-control crime, like Union Station and the mall, and far less present in the actual high crime areas. Which is what you’d expect when the author of the policy judges his underlings based on how this comes off on Fox News.

As much as I think he’s a tool, I’m enjoying Newsom’s new habit of trolling the administration.
Not at all… It’s Federal land and property. The DC National Guard is the President’s to command. The Guard coming from WV are still commanded by the Governor of WV, they are just being placed under command of the President willingly by the Governor. There is no federalizing of the National Guard. It’s a stoopid argument to try to make.
-
And I just drove through most of DC to get to Howard University this morning. Didn’t see any NG, extra Law Enforcement, or protesters. I did see the remnants of the homeless camp off the E Street Expressway that still needs to be cleaned up.
-
I doubt you’ll really see much. I’m assuming I didn’t see anything this morning because the protests were still getting prepped. It will likely be very different when I leave this afternoon.
The timing might also be slowing things. Back to school, colleges just getting back to campus…

What is federal land and property? Sorry, not sure what you were referring to.

I don't think it's Kristallnacht or racist, but it's certainly unnecessary. As @jon-nyc it's a pure distraction move (an old strategy found on page 1 of Trump's playbook). It's sad how much money is spent, resources distracted, and people's lives are impacted just to protect Trump's fragile ego.
Crime in DC has been much worse before, and after the COVID/BLM increase from 2021-2023, has been on a decline... but yes I guess in 2025, now we need to send in the troops and tanks.
As with all things, just imagine MAGA's reaction had Biden done what Trump does.

DC is a Federal district, answering to the Federal Government. They are not a state, or a commonwealth. Technically, it’s not even a city, it’s a Federal District. Things that Trump are not allowed to do regarding other states/cities as a matter of Constitutional Authority do not completely apply, here.
Even Maureen Dowd agrees he is in the legal and moral right, here. https://www.irishtimes.com/world/us/2025/08/17/opposition-must-be-wary-of-slating-trumps-washington-dc-crackdown/

You’re working under the misguided notion that reporting has been consistent. I suggest you research what the DC Police Union has been saying on the subject.

It wasn’t one of his callers, it was a text from a personal friend of his who is one of those democrats. I listened to him read it.

When I get back to the office, I will relate my own incident with a member of the DC Police 1 hour ago.
