The Stephen Colbert segments that moved me the most are the ones he did with his wife "Evie." Their on screen interactions are so warm, genuine, and sweet.

Get him out of his character and he’s quite a compelling guy.

Have never watched him other than clips.

Last late night tv I ever watched was the Merv Griffin Show. That Merv, I tell ya…

Me too. And that’s a problem with many of these pop culture characters. You only see what goes viral.

Strongly recommend watching this conversation about loss and grief. It’s what I think of when I hear about Colbert. If you can’t want the 20 minutes, watch the 5 minutes starting at 13:00. I found his late night to be too political, and wished Conan lasted longer…he was (IMO) extremely entertaining for late night. But again, when I think of Colbert, I think of this interview:

It’s moving. I think particularly about what Anderson Cooper related about his mom about the ‘why me’ question.

When Christopher Hitchens first wrote about his (ultimately terminal) cancer, he said something like the following:

“ To the dumb question "Why me?" the cosmos can barely muster the reply: ‘why not’.”

I had that firmly in mind throughout my sickness.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Indeed. Heck, I’ve been overall lucky with health and sometimes that’s what motivates me to work out when I don’t want to, because many people simply can’t.

In Hitchen's case it has to be said he didn't exactly help matters with the fags and booze.

                I was only joking

Neither did I with all the fags I sucked down.

Y’know, there’s just nothing I could add to that gift.

                      It was rather generous.
