Last late night tv I ever watched was the Merv Griffin Show. That Merv, I tell ya…

Strongly recommend watching this conversation about loss and grief. It’s what I think of when I hear about Colbert. If you can’t want the 20 minutes, watch the 5 minutes starting at 13:00. I found his late night to be too political, and wished Conan lasted longer…he was (IMO) extremely entertaining for late night. But again, when I think of Colbert, I think of this interview:

It’s moving. I think particularly about what Anderson Cooper related about his mom about the ‘why me’ question.
When Christopher Hitchens first wrote about his (ultimately terminal) cancer, he said something like the following:
“ To the dumb question "Why me?" the cosmos can barely muster the reply: ‘why not’.”
I had that firmly in mind throughout my sickness.

In Hitchen's case it has to be said he didn't exactly help matters with the fags and booze.
