Quickbooks, WTF?
-
The last time I looked at Quickbooks, it cost ~ $150 or so in 2018-2019. Decided not to get it because it wasn’t really necessary for our needs. With Karla amping up her business and taking on new caregivers, we figured it would probably make sense to get it if only to make it easier in transferring the files at Tax Time, plus it would be easier to track the expenses and receipts.
I went online to buy it last night. It’s now a subscription service at frigging $900 per year! And that’s the essentials package. The average mid tier is $1400 per year. What the actual bleep?
So we’re not going with Quickbooks. Does anybody have any recommendations for a good accounting program? We’re not looking for it to handle payroll, billing, and invoicing. She’s inheriting a service that already handles that as well as all of the tax reporting requirements. Just something that puts together the expenses and receipts in a nice clean document that also may help with Quarterly Tax estimates.

QuickBooks is overkill for you anyway. You don't need double balance accounting and to have to design a chart of accounts. As treasurer of one of my charities I just use a spreadsheet ledger that classifies income and expenses. I just take pics or scan receipts. I can send you an example if you want.

Try this:
https://www.manager.io/Maybe the only accounting software that still let you use it without “subscription”, and you can run it entirely locally on your own computer (non-cloud). I looked around when I was looking for non-subscription, desktop (non-cloud) alternatives for QuickBooks. Manager.io came the closest. I still cling to an old desktop version of QuickBooks running in Windows 10 in a VM, and keep Manager.io in mind for when that old desktop version of QuickBooks truly becomes unsupportable.
Good luck!

Don’t forget about the best part. After you pay, you get to actually keep NOTHING!
