We are preparing for a light remodel of the store. New paint, floors, and carpet. Refresh some of the office furniture, nothing major.

We’re getting multiple bids for the flooring. A guy that was highly recommended to us scheduled an appointment to see the the showroom and bring samples for this morning. Tuesdays are normally a day off for me, but I changed my schedule to come in for the appointment and the principal of the company decided to postpone a flight to Atlanta to meet the guy and go over the project. The guy doesn’t show (we confirmed the appointment, yesterday).

I called him, and he answered the phone “Hey Brad, did you need to postpone tomorrow’s appointment?”

    “Tomorrow? We scheduled for Tuesday.”

“Yeah, tomorrow. Wait… is today Tuesday?”

    SMH..

    The Brad

What's your role with the store, in other words... of course you want to control spending and be profitable, but is the larger brand the one with the P&L statements or do these types of expenditures become risky for you?

I think you’re mixing up this with the thread about Karla’s business…

I’m the Fairfax showroom manager as well as the “Institutional” manager, meaning I oversee all of our institutional accounts (schools, colleges/universities/performance venues) in the DC and Baltimore region. There’s no financial risk on my end except for the overall success of the renovation can help or hurt store sales.

Service, lack thereof, can be annoying, and concerning.

Carpenter orders us some 5m lengths of thermowood cladding.
            "It'll be about 3 weeks"
2.5 weeks later we call with our carpenter as he wishes to arrange his work schedule.
"...at least another two weeks plus a week to cut to template and deliver"
Less than impressed, carpenter reorganised his work accordingly.

            One week later (yesterday)...
            "We're delivering tomorrow"
Well Ok, excellent. Carpenter texts us to please store wood in a cool place until he can reorganise and get to us.

I open the front door today at 9.30 as our visitors from Seattle are going on a day trip, and look:

            20250710_092751.jpg
            !!! 🙄
Dumped in the sun, didn't even bother to ring our doorbell.
MrsA says to me just as well they got the correct house.

This kind of thing loses the firm any further business.

We need the stairs, upstairs and basement refloored. The first appointment they did not show. i called them and they apologized and said they would send me a $50 Amazon gift card which hasn't showed up nearly two weeks out. We rescheduled and they did show up. We didn't like their stairway options and now they have been texting me pretty much every day offering discounts, asking for the business.

I'm about to tell them, "Look, two out of three things you promised did not happen. Why would I want to do business with you?".

Funny, we just bought a new stove (FINALLY!), called an electrician to fit a new socket as the old one sticks out of the wall and it can be flush.

                "Sure, is 10.30am tomorrow OK?"

No show, no email, no socket, no nothing.

Still, it's better than the guy who was supposed to install our new deck who did pretty much the same thing after taking $4000 of our finest American dollars.

"Sorry, my father just passed away", "Sorry I'm not going to be able to do it this year", "Sure, I'll arrange for a refund"...."Sorry, I thought my office had already taken care of that".....".....silence...."

                Asshole.

                I was only joking
