The comments are pretty funny but I guess this one was kinda the most direct.

Hard to imagine a flood warning being forward to the sheriffs Facebook page at 1:20am instead of 5:20am was going to save those girls.

It wasn’t “sent to their FB accounts”. A flood watch was issued earlier in the afternoon, there were 3 online discussion groups about the probability of flooding the evening before between the NWS and local leaders, and the flood warning at 1AM is a full scale alert system, with warnings being sent to phones, via radio, emergency broadcast. An even larger warning was sent about 4AM.

What I do not understand, as a dad that has been at multiple summer camps, there are supposed to be adults monitoring weather reports 24 hours a day in the office. I’ve spent more than one late night taking my shift at the station, and I’ve been woken up more than once in my tent when the weather station sent out alerts that lightning and thunderstorms were rolling in and we had 30 minutes to secure our gear and go to the storm shelters.

All this as an "aside" is quite expected and somewhat pleasant in a funny kind of way. But as a plan that actual world leaders use to manage real world affairs, it's a bit disturbing.

What I find fascinating is that Margorie Taylor Greene apparently believes that it is impossible for massive carbon dioxide global emissions to be capable of affecting the climate because the earth is self-regulating or really big or something or other, but thinks a bunch of aircraft presumably piloted by black Jewish one-legged lesbians secretly releasing chemicals could do the job.

                      I was only joking

                          Haha well said.

I have an Uncle (divorced my Aunt in the 90s, but I still see his posts on facebook) in Florida who posts stuff like MTG... after the North Carolina floods from the Hurricane, he was posting all sort of "evidence" that the Hurricane was controlled by chemtrails and other chemical agents that made the Hurricane strengthen and aim towards Republican areas so they would be hit hard. It's hard for me to understand how someone can be so separated from reality...but it seems there are quite a few folks in the country who are.

Yeah... it seems odd. Perhaps they relied too heavily on the "it hasn't happened before" idea that the flood wouldn't eventually wash away a camp that's located in a... flood zone, during a flood warning and later a flood emergency.

The term for that is the normalization of deviance. It is precisely that that brought about both the Challenger and Colombia Space Shuttle disasters.

I don’t think you are wrong in applying the principle to this tragedy.

That term always makes me think of the Piper Alpha disaster. The repercussions from that is how I ended up doing what I've done for the last 36 years.
