One of the joys of being old is that I have learned to appreciate technology – perhaps more than people who have known it all their lives. My latest sojourn into AI was related to some software/hardware/networking issues at home. In the past, I might have posted on a message board or contacted tech services of different companies – and it easily could have been transformed into a multi-day frustration to get things to work. Using AI, I could work iteratively to solve the multiple issues necessary to get things to work. Admittedly, some of the issues were…me…and some of it was that I’m working with equipment from different manufacturers with their long-winded recondite manuals providing more information than I need – but which take time to wade through – and providing plenty of opportunities for wrong direction. Using AI, I got clear instructions on exactly what to do – and when something didn’t work, just report back – and ask for additional clarification. SUCCESS – new computer, new streamer, and new music server interfaced with two different music systems and a digital piano. Less fuss, no phone calls, no misdirected anger, etc. AI seems to get better every month I use it – and I’m using more than one product. Best thing since the invention of the internet.

I have found AI invaluable for deciphering various error messages and their resolutions, and figuring out how to do technical things I may not have done in the past. Manuals typically tell you everything but what you need to know.

Yeah - and mixing equipment/software from different companies - and getting things to play well with one another. Manuals are either light on helpful instructions and provide no helpful informaiton or provide information for every conceivable situation but the one you're interested - yet which still require you to spend a few hours searching.

With AI - one gets an immediate answer and if that's inadquate, one can querie again - and get another immedaite reply. Best of all, I can test false assumptions/delusions that I might have - and know instantly if I'm headed down the wrong path before buying something or getting frustrated.

That has been the universal great failing of tech docs for as long as I've been in the industry. Everything except what you need.
