Anyone else struggle with booze?

Though one point of pride for me is I’m just as capable of being an asshole sober as drunk.
@jon-nyc hahaha

I am a one drink and done type. Usually Scotch or Bourbon with a fine cigar.
I do this only on nice weather weekends starting Friday after work then again on Saturday night. On occasion, I will do Sunday evening as well.
In the winter months I do not imbibe. It is 100% a nice weather, weekend thing.
I never feel bad the next day. I do feel very tired after that one drink.

i like beer but i dont drink more than a pint (here we would call it 500 ml) because its just becomes too much liquid sloshing around. thats maybe once a week at dinner
as for wine, when we (the mrs and I) open a bottle of wine at dinner, we wil usually finish it before bed, i just dont put wine in the fridge ever, once its uncorked its drunk, thats maybe once a week.
dont really do cocktails or anything else, although i get so much whiskey as gifts from patients but dont really use it that often.
i think the last time i was "drunk" to the point of silliness was in college. and thats a long time ago.
so i dont think i have any alcohol issues...if i dont drink at all during the week i dont really give it a thought.

You guys have persuaded me. I'm going to start just having one beer on Friday's and Saturdays from now on.

I rarely drink alcohol now. At some point, your body just isn’t happy with it anymore - for me, even just one drink, two for sure (especially wine) can trigger a migraine, or can make me feel under the weather the next day - it doesn’t always happen, but it happens enough that it’s just not worth it. I love beer and wine, but I don’t like wasting a day anymore. I drink NA beer or soda water when I want something cold and fizzy now. The saddest part is - when you no longer drink - you start to notice how many of your friends and relatives really do have issues with alcohol - even though they manage to function during the day.

I’ve been able to curb my alcohol habit by injecting heroine. I’m down to just 2 glasses of beer a week!

How much heroine do you need to hold the "two beers a week" baseline?
.00004 COVIDS.

Agreed. One of my grandpas was an alcoholic, not a pretty sight. For me, it's the first time all day (around 9pm) when I'm not working or with kids, so it's easy to go into relaaaaaax mode and enjoy the feeling. That being said, last night I went to be a tad earlier and had good sleep, and feel great this morning. Like @Horace says, I should chase this feeling instead, it's great.

Just don't get back in the driver's seat after 3 beers

There are entire chunks of my kid’s childhood I can’t recall. I don’t know if it’s due to stress, exhaustion, or hangovers, but it bugs me when I hear “Hey, do you remember when …”, and I have zero recollection of certain vacations, parties, school events, Christmases, birthdays. Everyone else remembers but me

A few days before @89th posted this, I had decided that I needed to dig in on some weight loss, and a part of that was going to be putting the beer down for a while. Even the low carb/lite stuff adds up... I also figured that meant whiskey, too, since (to paraphrase @Horace ) I choose the first whiskey and the whiskey chooses the beer chaser. So today marks 2 weeks dry. I can't really point to feeling any better in the mornings, but I've not been as tired at night, and my digestive health has been better (reflux and such). I've lost about 8 pounds so far. I'm thinking that I'll go for a dry June at least, with the possible exception of a glass of whiskey with Luke on Father's Day...

Good for you dude! I’ll do it with you. I had a couple Moscow mules the other night that were delicious but once again I was dragging in the morning. Plus as I use the Mist app to track calories via AI, it really shows how I’m on target until 9pm and then if I drink/snack that’s where the excess kicks in.

That’s the danger time… Kids are in bed, let’s grab a beer to relax…Then you finish that one and there’s 15 minutes left in the show… Have a second? Why not? I’m not driving anywhere… While you’re grabbing that second beer, you notice that bag of chips in the pantry…
