The other day I was thinking how it's pretty cumbersome to try and track what you eat and the calories, etc. I know getting in shape is like 80% reducing calorie intake.

Anyway, I saw a link to an app called "Mist" and it's pretty cool. You basically just type or say something and it ballparks the nutrition (calories, protein, fat) by searching like a million data sources (i.e., the AI part). You can say "half a bowl of oatmeal" or "3 tacos" or "a breakfast sandwich from jimmy deans" and it automatically displays and tracks the nutrition.

Very quick way to track stuff if you want to, without all of the manual effort to be precise. It does have a few other features I probably wont use that analyzes your overall diet and how it's helping or hurting, with recommendations (shocker... more protein, nuts, and veggies), along with a conversational AI nutrition bot.

I'll have a look at that. Thanks!

I've dieted enough that I know the calories for virtually everything I'm likely to eat, so i usually just do it in my head, but this could be fun. I've dropped 18 so far by exercise and staying to 1500-2000 a day. Unfortunately, my recent foot surgery has kept me out of the gym for a couple weeks. I can still do some cardio at home with my arms

Oh wow, nice! The app does have a free trial then is like $8/month after that. I usually do some ballpark math in my head but I'm sure I underestimate. My target is 1800 kcals a day to try and lose about a pound per week. I'm 227 now, would love to be back to the 180s in like 2 years. My BMI says I should be like 170 but I only saw that once during peak marathon training, and also when I was in my 20s, lol.

over two million people per year die from obesity. To put that into standard metrics, it is 200,000 Columbine massacres, or 1.8 COVIDs. I don't think $8 a month is a bigger deal than 100,000 Columbine massacres.

True, but considering when my family of 5 wants jimmy johns for dinner, it's like $45. Heck, the cost of one of my wife's Caribou Coffee drinks is $7. Either way, I figure after a few months when I look like Brad Pitt in Fight Club, I can cancel the $8.

We need a food registration system. Of course, big food will resist this, saying its a constitutional right to eat, however it's pretty hard to pursue happiness if you can't get out of your chair.

If it saves just one life it’s worth 100,000 Columbine massacres.
