@taiwan_girl figured you’d appreciate it… this restaurant is “the oldest saloon in DC” dating to 1856, it’s a block from the White House and there are animal heads mounted on the walls, allegedly some of the animals killed and bagged by Teddy Roosevelt.

I’m sure! In Ireland I once was at a pub that was from like the year 1100. Or 700. Who knows, give or take a few centuries.

Also, screw DC parking. When I lived in the area I had a few go-to spots I'd find that I knew were legal and good locations. But driving in on Friday I searched for a bit for a spot and finally found one behind a few other cars parked, and the only signs nearby said "parking allowed until 4pm" (it was only 315pm) and another sign that said "tour bus parking limited to 1 hour". There was a "pay to park" machine that let me buy a pass until 4pm, so I bought it, placed it on my dashboard, and returned at 355pm.
Got a $30 ticket for parking "tour bus parking only". NO WHERE does it say that ONLY tour buses are allowed, although if I google DC parking sign rules it does say that these sign means "only tour buses are allowed in this zone". What malarkey.

There are English pubs where some of the food behind the bar was prepared before 1856.
