And now, the corruption.

I also think the founders would have found it impossible to imagine that a president could sell access to his office and not be impeached and convicted, more or less unanimously.
But here we are.
But then again they also wouldn't have imagined your typical magat having the vote. They imagined gentlemen choosing our leaders.
Might just be a relationship there.

It is corruption, but not illegal. Like the paintings.
Still, I think you'd find the Trump family's corruption, as measured in dollars, to exceed the sum of any and all corruption of the other 44 men who held the office combined.

I can't actually think of very many scandals that enriched members of the president's family. Hunter Biden. Do we count Billy Beer? I'd say no, no one bought it thinking they'd get influence.
The major historical scandals - Grant's whiskey ring, Harding's Teapot Dome, enriched cabinet members, not family members. But even then the numbers are relatively tiny.
We (US) all had to learn about the teapot dome scandal - it netted 400k for the interior secretary - maybe 8MM today.

If you'd take the worst thing every president ever did, but one of the presidents does all of these things, then he didn't do anything that hasn't been done before, but it's still infinitely worse than what any of his predecessors did.

On the positive side, we've just experienced the greatest medical breakthrough in American history.

Until now, modesty has prevented me from declaring myself the most incisive, witty and intelligent poster in not just this forum, but any forum.
And nobody knows more about being incisive, witty and intelligent than me. Also, I know a lot about modesty. Some people say it's my only failing.

Yeah. It’s bad. I really wish the democrats would have put up a viable candidate.

I would agree with that. My first wish is that DeSantis would have won.
My hope now is that some of the good things stick, but the bad things are bad enough that the Republicans, Conservatives, and Moderates can correct course from a Trump appointed successor.
The worrying thing for Dems?
