So let's get this straight. Signal is so secure that the gov preloaded it on phones and it was okay to use for conversations about time/weapons/location of an attack, but a journalist was somehow able to hack it?

I love the way they're attacking the journalist who as far as I can tall hasn't done anything wrong at all. "This loser" - very grown up.
It's also fairly obvious who the loser is here.

He’s easily been the most honest and patriotic of the bunch.
The only one who has shown any honor and it’s obvious.

Arrogance and incompetence is never a good mix.

If only there had been some way to predict that hiring all these inexperienced people could lead to amateur-hour own goals.

It's a little disappointing that those Hitler meltdown parodies have gone out of fashion. I'm sure the Fuhrer would have quite a bit to say about this situation.

Bolton:
It's inconceivable that the White House would not use the classified channels that we have spent so much time and effort and money over decades trying to make us as secure as possible. This carelessness puts American service members at risk.

And not just military:
Tim Miller: "There was a covert CIA operative named in the thread, right?"
Jeffrey Goldberg: "Yes, and I withheld her name... I didn't put it in the story because she's under cover. But, I mean, the CIA Director put it into the chat."

Somebody needs to get fired. And it shouldn't be Jeffrey Goldberg.

This.
Again, if anybody else in government or military service did this, they would immediately be kicked out.

Oh man that would be so good right now.
SO GOOD.

Mike Waltz could respond with "I can tell you for 100%, I don't know this guy Hitler, I just know him by his horrible reputation."

Here's the full released chat thread:

A couple takeaways:
- Can you imagine if you suddenly got a "Mike Waltz has added you to this chat"? I can see why the first thought was "is this a trap?"
- Mike likes to say "Pls" instead of "Please" and "Thx" instead of "Thanks. I was hoping for a kthxbai
- Mike claiming he didn't add Goldberg is laughable. He was added and then spoke in the first person. It was him typing.
- Mike references "in our first PC" which indicates this is not the first small group PC (private chat?) they've had
- Hegseth doesn't "classify" the team update section, but clearly (anyone in DOD/Intel) knows that type of content is classified at least at the SECRET level, if not TS/SCI.
- I chuckled at Hegseth's "We are currently clean on OPSEC" (which means adversaries don't know this is coming), and oh man Goldberg should've chimed in at that point "wrong number who dis"

So, was Goldshit added on purpose?

From a high level defense official.
“It is safe to say that anybody in uniform would be court martialed for this,” the official said. “We don’t provide that level of information on unclassified systems, in order to protect the lives and safety of the servicemembers carrying out these strikes. If we did, it would be wholly irresponsible. My most junior analysts know not to do this.”

I'm not following this one. What are you describing and what does it prove? My vague impression is that one of Walz's staffers added Goldberg accidentally. Is this clearly not the case?

Yes it's obvious that this would be a very big personal deal for any underling who did an identical thing with their own foreknowledge of a battle action.
