One thing he has going for him is he was basically out of national politics during the woke craziness so not much to walk back. Also he’s associated with the post Cold War pre 9/11 era which is pretty much the golden era economically and geopolitically in our lifetimes.

I'd forgotten that he was ambassador to Japan. He's certainly got some chops.

Shapiro would eat Newsom for breakfast. After the Biden Harris years no one is going to trust Newsom, and trust is going to be huge in 28.

I doubt it’ll be Vance.
And if you look up sleezy salesman in the dictionary you’ll see a picture of Newsom.
