    That’s pretty cool.

    Contrast with strahan’s record sack of Favre. Though that wasn’t strahan’s decision.

    Education is extremely important.

      Yeah, as a Penguins fan I am obligated to despise him, but I’ll give some begrudging credit…

        Am glad for Ovechkin, he has worked hard to break that record. Despite all, I like the guy, always have. He’s by far the best Russian player since Valery Kharlamov.

        Curious whether McDavid will manage to come close to Gretzky and Ovechkin. Hands down he has the talent, not sure if he has the team.

        Gretzky was blessed - he played with Kurri, Messier and Anderson among others. McDavid has Draisaitl, Hyman, Nugent-Hopkins and, as of late, Perry. It takes a whole team to get there.

            So I wonder if Leonsis will buy him a Rolls Royce?

              I would have bought him a GAZ- 13
              Chaika. Damn near bought one in 1994.

                Keep in mind Ovie is in his 30s. Hockey is a hard sport. Or maybe it's the vodka.

                  A larger human than I would have guessed. Gretzky is so physically unimposing.

                    Amazingly, both Ovechkin and Gretzky hit the mark on exactly the same number of games played, 1487.

                    While looking up that stat, I was forcibly reminded of how incredible Mario Lemieux was.

                      @Horace

                      That’s right, Gretzky was physically unimposing compared to other players. He looked like a skinny kid. As well, he was not all that fast compared to other players. He was however agile and seemed have an uncanny ability to know exactly where the play was going and be at the right spot at the right time to take over control of the action. Because of his physical limitations Sather always had to make sure goon enforcers like Semenko and McSorley were on the ice with Gretzky to act as deterrents. Ovechkin and now, McDavid, are big and fast enough that they don’t need enforcers to protect them. That and the fact, that the NHL has cleaned up and sanctioned a lot of the brute force gooning that had come to characterize the game back in the Gretzky era.
