Words from Reza Pahlavi. I rather doubt Iran wishes to go back to the Shah's son, after all there was a reason the Islamic revolution caught fire.

Yeah, saw Pahlavi's op-ed in WaPo and had to look up who he is. In the op-ed he's labeled "leader of the Iranian democratic opposition" alongside "the eldest son of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the last shah of Iran."

I wonder what the process looks like that ends with that guy being a stable leader of Iran.

Consider the history all the younger Iranians have been fed by the regime all their lives, probably mostly true. Where I do think Pahlavi has by far the most organized, if on the down low, support behind him, I just doubt the younger Iranians will go for it.

Maybe the Crown prince will promise to govern as a constitutional monarch as opposed to an autocrat like his father.

…. I’m just not convinced that the Iranian rabble primarily in rural areas is ready to cast off its religious superstitions and the accompanying fanaticism that that belief system breeds.

It's interesting to think how long he's been in power. I think Iran has had 4 leaders in 100+ years. I don't know of another country with that track record.

Putting that together with the former post, I suspect the early decapitation inhibited some coordination as far as a response goes. We'll see.
