      I wonder how North Korea gets its place near the bottom.

      Yes, it's of course one of the worst places to be on earth, but it's not obvious that corruption is also a big thing there, and we barely have any intel about what's going on in this place.

        It is pretty corrupt. Because very few people have anything, the general population are always looking for a "edge"

        • getting into one school or another
        • extra ration tickets
        • special work assignments
        • getting assigned to a certain floor of apartment
        • how can I make the authority overlook me having something I am not supposed to?
          etc.

        So much there is in relationships. How much can this person help me and what do I need to do to make that happen?

          I might have had to murder myself if I had been born there.

          Education is extremely important.

            In that possible universe I hope you at least take out a state functionary with you.

              Well, DJT is moving to make it a bit easier to commit bribery thanks to this executive order. That should be a good thing.

                @kluurs

                That will make it easier for Americans to do business in Russia. It was quite an impediment for some back in the 90’s.
