The BEE needs a headline about Trump following Canada's leadership in their halting of minting pennies (12 years ago).

For the record;
there was no rage over a lost penny in this country.

We talked about this before a bit.

I agree with President Trump that we should get rid of the penny. One of the European countries did this (maybe Sweden?). Keep prices the same, if the total ends in 3,4,5 - round up to 5. Ends in 0,1,2 - round down to 0.

We should make the $100 bill the smallest denomination and then the prices of most every day items will round to $0.

I hadn't really thought about it, but as usual with many things, there are "unintended consequences"
Phasing out the penny could result in needing to make more nickels, and the US Treasury Department loses far more money on every nickel than it does on every penny.
and
According to the latest annual report from the US Mint, each penny cost 3.7 cents to make, including the 3 cents for production costs, and 0.7 cents per coin for administrative and distribution costs. But each nickel costs 13.8 cents, with 11 cents of production costs and 2.8 cents of administrative and distribution costs. These figures are for the government’s fiscal year, which ends on September.

Again, the cost of manufacturing every single individual denomination is irrelevant. The cost of manufacturing currency as a whole is what matters. Otherwise this argument leads to doing away with the nickel, then the quarter, then the dollar…
And what happens to the $250M of pennies currently in circulation?

Probably a buyback for x years that banks will have to participate in.

They're going to be melted down and turned into an enormous statue of the greatest man who ever lived, which will serve as a memorial to his grace, wisdom and wit.

What are the odds that by 2028, we'll see an order from Trump to include his face on the $100. His reason will be that Franklin wasn't even popular enough to be President! SAD

Yes, he really ought to be paying rent. Maybe that's why he wants all the pennies.
You just know he's got some kind of weird-ass scam in mind

No, just look at the posting history around here. The anti-Trumpers gave ramped up by at least 30-40%. Y'all can't help it it...And it's not to comment on whether you agree or disagree with a policy or action, it's a constant denigration spree.
Sometimes it can be funny, but mostly it's a nonsensical dog pile. It's like a constant reminder of how much some want reform to fail and how much some people hate the man.
Maybe George has the right idea...

At some point you'll realise I'm kidding. I know America is SERIOUS BUSINESS. Still....
And I reviewed all the positive things you said about his predecessor. It didn't take long.

I'm not aware of anyone on this forum who wants reform to fail, or who hate Trump. You see it as a dog pile, I see it as Trump introducing new ideas or controversies daily, and (at least for me) my refusal to become numb to the lies, hypocrisy, petulance (yes, my word of the year). I have been quick to compliment good changes Trump has made, but I'm also quick to call out BS.
Funny, last night I finished Chernobyl, and thought this line about lies vs truth hit hard. Essentially he's remarking that the USSR's lying became so common that folks forgot to require the truth.

Already started. A goat statue in Mar A Lago
(I am guessing that probably technically, it is illegal to deface the money like this)

Hamilton was a perennial target of Republicans that wanted to put Reagan on the 10 for the same reason. The musical probably saved us from refacing the 10 for another two generations.
Funny to think of a GOP enthralled by Reagan. Seems so quaint.

If Trump is successful in this term, he'll be one of the most transformational presidents in American history.
I wish him well.
