“Cry havoc and let slip the DOGE of war!”

Those who cheered as J-6 American prisoners were locked in solitary for 18 months without trial, now suddenly fight tooth and nail for foreign terrorists’ "due process". — Buck Sexton

I can't think of a single other occupation with so many septuagenarians and octogenarians still working.

      I was only joking

Yup, an upper age limit would not be a bad idea. You must be XX (maybe 70) years old at the beginning of your term, whatever position you are in.

        Should apply to judges also.

I'm sure I would make a better congressperson today at age 70 than I would have been 30 years ago at age 40.

The more interesting question is why they seem so reluctant to retire.

I'm sure, but you may be above average in that. I think it is the energy to do the job more than anything.

Power. It is tough to give up. People "fawn" over you, and it is not because of you, but because of what you do. Once you leave that position, you are just "ordinary". Most politicians have a very big ego, and becoming "ordinary" is hard for them to take.

People love power? Some think they are doing good. Who knows. I'm going to retire as soon as humanly possible... hopefully the stock market will get artificially inflated by Trump and Vance for 12 years and then in 2035 I'll just switch it all to bonds before the Great Depressing Recession! MAGA more like MDGA!
