Don’t do this…

Our telephones in the store are set to go to a message after 4 rings if it’s not answered. The message is “thank you for calling __________, if you’re getting this message, it’s because we are currently assisting other clients. If you leave your name and telephone number, we will call as soon as we are available”
At this point, the caller has several options to choose from. They can choose leave a message, they can choose to just hang up and try again later, they can choose to hang up and not try back at all, or they can choose option 4. Option 4 is to hang up and immediately call back, then hang up when you get the message again, and immediately call back again… Repeat 5-6 times.
I promise you, when you do this obsessively and repeatedly then finally get me on the phone to request a piano tuning in two weeks, I am unfortunately probably not going to be as helpful and accommodating as I normally would be.
I’m not sure who needs to hear that, but obviously some people do. So try to keep it in mind.

Does your company have a number people can text?
That helped me reduce the emergency style button pushing. Current message is "Hi, this is Rich at mycheeseypianorelatedbusinessname.com Leave a message or text us at this number, and we'll get back to you as soon as possible"
People prefer short messages, and love texting.

Yes, adding the text option to the message is a good idea.
Though just not being an OC jerk and realizing there’s a reason that you are getting the voicemail is still the best option…
